Spotlight on: The Republic of Farrodum

"If at first you cant succeed, kill people"

UN Category: Corrupt Dictatorship

Civil Rights: Very Good
Economy: Strong
Political Freedoms: Few

The Republic of Farrodum is a huge, socially progressive nation, renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 552 million are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Commerce, Defence, and Education. The average income tax rate is 51%, and even higher for the wealthy. A healthy private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Arms Manufacturing.

Drunk drivers are sentenced to death, euthanasia is legal, Animal Liberationists are regularly jailed, and a large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Farrodum's national animal is the dung, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the C-U-N-T.

Not only does it have an inappropriate currency, it was most recently active far longer than sixty days ago. How odd.

Where do you get that XML feed. The one on the news page doesn't have all that data, I think.

There was a nation a while back that had not been deleted after 200-some days. This could be the same bug. The mods usually just delete it individually.
