Unexplained rules of the game

I have a huge problem here. For some reasonit is made extremely difficult to even get into the game. I look and look and look and still many questions go unanswered. Questions to topics that actually LEAD to really JOINING THE GAME even in some small way. It's as if it's set up that way so that nobody else can really join in unless they want to guesstimate their way through it. There are tons of faqs and guidelines on the Role Playing of the game, but you can't even get to that part before you figure out the entire game, which is impossible to do because it is not explained in full anywhere, in any FAQ I have yet seen. But enough bickering, I'll just ask a few of my questions off the top of my head.

1. In the UN you can look at a list of proposals, even ones with time to spare on voting, and yet there is no direct button/link to vote for or against the proposal. Why?How do you vote for a proposal? What am I missing here?

2. I get a couple telegrams a week asking me to "endorse a country, for they have endorsed mine". What does Endorsement mean? What does it do? Should I look more carefully at countries I endorse?

3. Now that I am in the UN, perhaps prematurely (but then if anything about this part of the game were properly explained, I might have known not to join yet) I am forced to conform to the changes they make in international law, and I am happy to do so, but does this mean I have to do something in particular? Or does the game automaticallyforce your country to comply?

4. How do you defend your country against possible oncoming attacks? Is there a way to Role Play this that I am just not seeing?

5. Can your country make a statement in a forum on these boards regarding their distaste for something another country has done and/or something that has passed in the UN?

any help would be great. Thanks inadvance.

1> theres a link towards the bottom where it says the current amount of people voting for or against

2. towards the bottom of your nations page or other un nations page is abit that says about endorsements they are what makes your un nation become delegate if you have enough if your on someone elses nations page in your region click the add endorsement button and it adds your endorsement

3.it automatically enforces it

4.its all roleplay if you want to learn check out the international incidents forum and watch a few Roleplays and work it like that

5.i dont think you can post a distaste for another country because that borders on flame or insults (read the forum rules) but in the un debates forum you can tell people how you dislike a cirrent resolution

Take a look at these articles: Gameplay (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Gameplay) and Roleplay (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Roleplay).

JJzchmed, it sounds like you have looked at several stickies in the forums, but have you read the Game FAQ (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/43199/page=faq)? Some of what you are asking is adressed there.

A few other things:

4. War between nations is done through role play. Check out the Guide to NationStates (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=357975) sticky in the International Incidents forum.

5. You can make in character (IC) statements reflecting distaste for other nations and UN resolutions. Don't get carried away. A little common sense goes far. You could ICly hate Tiborita, and denounce my nation, and that would be fine. If you use IC to throw around, say, racial slurs, or something else designed to frustrate another player, you run the risk of the mods deciding you are trolling, and the mods will take some action.

thanks for all your help, alot of my questions were answered. In Question 1 however I wasn't referring to the proposal on the front page of the UN, I meant the list of proposals awaiting approval, many nations can approve these proposals, how do I do that? Do you have to be a delegate or something?

How do I approve a proposal?

You must be a Regional Delegate. If you are, then you will have an option to approve proposals when you view the list. By allowing unapproved proposals to fall by the wayside, Regional Delegates make sure that the UN only votes on worthy issues.

Perhaps a few of experianced NSers and Mods could get together and write a "Manual" to the game. I dont know if this has been brought up before or not but Just an idea. I would help if we did...

We have a manual written for the game. It's called the game FAQ. Region invasions? There are manuals for that in moderation. Role play? The manuals are in II and NS. The information is out there. put some work into finding what you need.
