TAG and BUMP

What is the deal with TAG and BUMP?
I see people posting these a lot, but it just looks like spam to me and no one will tell me what they mean. I searched for answers but found nothing. As you may expect, searching for TAG or BUMP will come up with a lot of things that aren't about what they mean. Also, are these spam or not?
Now, I see that this could go in the Moderation forum, as there is a question about spam, but I thought that it is primarily technical, so, here it is!

To BUMP is to bring up one's post to the top of the page, hence 'bumping' the thread so that others are able to see it. Few people really browse through the first five pages of threads on any forum anyways, so if it's not on the front page, it makes sense to bump it, mostly for storefronts. If it's a closed roleplay, bumping no longer makes sense because the thread typically lies in the roleplayers' subscribed threads list (found in User Profile)

To TAG is to mark a thread for future reference, basically, a quick way to subscribe to the thread so you can view it in the user profile later on, or just to state your interest in the thread. Kind of like taking one of those yellow post-it notes and sticking it on the thread. Figuratively.

Hope this helps.

Because of Jolt's subscribe feature now though, the 'TAG' is now obselete, and is prefered not to be used.

Because pf Jolt's subscribe feature now though, the 'TAG' is now obselete, and is prefered not to be used. But many people still use it.

For which they ought to be shot.

Agreed, tagging is rather pointless now and to avoid an RP thread of nothing but tags I post a 'Taggers Will Be Shot' warning in the first post :D
