I think it would be really cool if there was some sort of stock market feature where nations could make companies and select them to be like a "oil company" or "military technology company" and see how they do.

Personally, I'd love the idea of having a stock market initiated into the game, however, I don't think that it will ever become part of Nation States 1. There is a possibility though, that NS2 may partially include what you're suggesting. You should check out the Nationstates 2 Forum out.
i tryed makeing a "stockMarket" forum site, nothing fancy but it was for peoples storefronts but it never took off so i removed it. IF people are interested i would be more then welcome to try again maby this time make the formula a bit more complex and realistic instead of totalProf/StockAmount=StockPricePerShare
