A Thousand Alliances

The Empire of A Thousand Alliances is a small, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 10 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Religion & Spirituality, Commerce, and Law & Order. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 12%. A large private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Furniture Restoration and Soda Sales.
Surveillance cameras are banned, meat is a luxury afforded only to the wealthy, the government is slowly introducing social welfare programs, and the government awards prizes to television shows featuring stereotype-breaking minority roles. Crime is a serious problem. A Thousand Alliances's national animal is the Peregrine Falcon and its currency is the Watt.
A Thousand Alliances is ranked 2nd in the region and 88,439th in the world for Most Income Equality.
Heh, my Empire both contains "[a] complete absence of social welfare" and is also "slowly introducing social welfare programs". Hmm, somebody might want to fix this ;)
