NationStates Jolt Archive

Parts of NationStates not loading.

This is the fourth day in a row I have dealt with this problem, so I thought I'd get some help.

The following things do not load or work for me: The graphic in the upper-left corner, the NationStates logo at the top of the page, mine and the majority of all nations flags, sending telegrams, viewing other nations, posting on regional RMBs, logging out, answering issues (although I can open the issues page), the settings page, THE WORLD page, THE UNITED NATIONS page… actually, how about I list the things that are working to save time?

Regional View (only my current region), Nation View (only my own nation), the forums, News, FAQ, About, and viewing telegrams.

I’m assuming that this has something to do with the recent mass spaming and the fact I use dial-up on AOL, but I am not sure as I am not highly computer savvy.

Any information on why this is happening and how I can fix it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

I'll look into this later tonight.

Ericadia, Fodmodmadtol, I'm going to try to debug both of you at once. This appears to be an odd caching problem with AOL, but I'll see what I can do.

You both say/imply that your own region page is working? Does it work from both the link at on your nation's page and the link on your sidebar?

I don't want to be rude but it happens to me too and I have SBC yahoo, but I've found either coming back to it or logging out then back in helps.

Not being rude at all. The more people that I can find with these symptoms, the quicker and easier it will be to find the cause. (I'm still suspected a caching issue)

Edit: At it looks to me like your's may be a separate issue. I'm not sure yet/

Salusa, yes it works from both.

Shiaze, no, it didn't help. But I didn't actually log out, I just shut nationstates and waited an hour or so since it seems to automatically log you out. Thanks anyway though.

This didn't seem significant enough to mention before, but maybe it will be a help now; When I first open NationStates and log into my nation, nothing loads. After refreshing one or two times it starts to load a few things (the items I listed in the first post).

I have tried refreshing it multiple times, but it still only loads the same few items.

Hope this has some importance,
Eric

This time I want you to actually logout from the game (using the link on the side bar) and then log back in. Let me know if this changes anything.

I can view other nations now, but it looks like that is all that changed.

Is there anything in particular you wanted me to try doing?

Explore and see how much is working. View all of the pages you couldn't before. Try to view the images that you couldn't before. etc.

Okay, I went through every page I could and here are the changes I noticed: The News page isn’t working, the [List All Regions] page is working (although I still can‘t view other regions), I can view other nations, and I can now switch pages under the “Today’s United Nations Report”

EDIT: And the images still aren't loading

I have the same problem. Here goes....

What works:

I can see my nation stats. (Works 75% of the time)

I can click "Most Recent Threads" and jump to the NS forums to RP and read stuff.

I can see the options for my nation, like Telegrams, Issues, Logout, etc.

I can read Telegrams.

I can see issues listed.

I can log-out.

What doesn't work:

I can't post in my Region chat thing.

I can't answer issues (dismiss, resolve, or just read the actual issues)

I can't view World (lists of nation rankings, and the "Find Nation or Region" search feature).

Not sure about UN, as I never go there or check it out as I'm never going to be a UN member in NS.

Odd bugs:

My issues AND population aren't updating. What I mean by that, my population hasn't increased in the last few days, and my issues are still [dismissed]. [legistation pending], or [unaddressed] after a few days.

I am under the impression that issues should take effect twice a day (major and minor update).

Am I the victim of a virus, a bug, or something? I use AOL Dial-up.

Update:

My issues got resolved for some reason, but my population didn't increase. It was 834 million a few days ago, and still is 834 million today even after the issues updated for first time in a few days.

Now I can't access the "answering part" of the issues again, even though I was able to answer one issue, the "Sharina's Schoolchildren Not Learning The Lingua Franca" one. I try to click on my 2nd issue, "Supreme Court" one which hasn't been resolved from a few days ago, and nothing happens. I get "Error! Please Reload" or the page doesn't respond.

What gives?

There's a big difference between the site not loading a particular page at all, and loading it but it not being right. Maybe people experiencing the latter problem (which could indeed be cache-related) could start a separate thread? (You can also try refreshing the frame that seems to be showing wrong/stale information -- for example, in the frame that shows your nation page, right click and select "Reload frame" or similar. See if the information changes.)

Regarding the not-loading problem: are you getting blank areas, or broken image icons, or what? When an entire frame doesn't load, do you get anything if you right-click in it and select "View Source?" Is the site running slowly at this time? Does anything happen if you right-click in the space and select "Reload frame"?

Well, it started working again, haven't been active much though. Unfortuneatly I didn't get to try any of your sugestions, [violet]. But to answer one of your questions: In the space where the picture should be it showed text and the broken image icon(the same text that shows up if you hold your cursor over the image).

Thanks for fixing it though,
Eric

I'm unable to answer and respond to issues again, although everything else appears to be in working order.

I just started doing Nationstates again after several months and I've noticed the problems with pages not loading. I'm on dial-up AOL and I haven't been able to get most of the pages others have already mentioned. However, I did find that if I open Internet Explorer and use that to get to Nationstates instead of AOL, for some reason it works. Since I've been doing that I've had no problems. But if I go back to AOL and use that, I can't get the pages again.
And I hope I'm doing this right, since this is the first time I've ever used the forum. :)
