Suicide Button

I am not sure if this topic has been brought up before, I apologize if it has:

How many times have you had a puppet you want to dispose of, but are tired of seeing it sit there until it expires? This problem can be solved with a simple button on the settings page that gives you the option to delete your nation. Things could also be made interesting by displaying a random message in the Regional Happenings such as:

22 Minutes ago: The Dominion of Universal Power was invaded by Barbarian Tribes

22 Minutes ago: The Dominion of Universal Power was wiped out in a Freak Nuclear Accident

This would save server space by disposing of unwanted nations, and also give people who want to stop playing a way to end it all immediately instead of dying from inactivity.

How do I delete my nation?

You can't. I decided it's better to have people upset because they can't start over with the same nation name than people upset because their nations got accidentally deleted.

If you don't log your nation in, it will be deleted automatically in 28 days.vBulletin suxx0rz

ah that's funny..... the regional happenings part.. but I'm pretty sure this has been discussed.. and denied.. it could be exploited too... if somebody guesses or knows a nations password.. to screw them over and delete their nation (sure they can ressurect it.. but think if it were an invader or defender)... but yah.. that would be great if they had it like you say.... make up some funny stuff for when they delete their own nation.. of course then you would get people like me who would go around making nations and deleting them just for the hell of it to see the funny regional happenings things

edit: grrr that's two times you got in before me in the past 5 minutes

What stops a person from flaming or spamming with a stolen nation to get it deleted? The stolen password wouldn't be much of a problem but you are right about deleting nations just for fun.

The mods have work enough. With this you give them more work with installing this script, and on the other hand they have to resurect more nations of which the owners have changed their minds. To be short, all they gain with this is more work, nothing else.

Since we have hackers that try to steal nation's passwords and cause havoc with them... I'd think an auto-delete button would lead to even more attempts at "nation hacking."

I don't see this happening.

little break-off on this subject

how about just displaying a random message in the Regional Happenings such as:

22 Minutes ago: The Dominion of Universal Power was invaded by Barbarian Tribes

22 Minutes ago: The Dominion of Universal Power was wiped out in a Freak Nuclear Accident
instead of "ceased to exist" when a nation dies of inactivy or gets deat? :D

yah, instead of just the plain old nation when a nation is deleted or dies off from inactivity... random little funny or stupid messages... modbombed.. etc... all that stuff.... it would be.. amusing.. if the admin were willing to code it

We've (the admins) discussesed this several times and decided that the problems incurred by people deleting their nations and then changing their minds far outweighs the benefits gained by people who can delete their nation without having to wait for 28 days.

I think he was talking about adding amusing sayings instead of "cease to exist" when nations die in the normal way, not about adding a self-deat button like the original poster said.

Perhaps a better idea then, would be to create a "suicide mode" of 7 days in addition to the "normal mode" of 28 days and the "vacation mode" of 60 days. It's a compromise, but the problems of a "suicide button" can be avoided.

Oh yes, and I like the "random death message" idea by The Phoenix Milita.

I like the idea of something other than "ceases to exist" message. That's getting stale and a few randomized fun fresher-uppers could spice things up.

examples...

"was smote by Max Barry"
"was born into non-existence"
"was torn apart by angry, mutated Santa's Elves"

Okay, maybe not...

We the nationstates respectfully disagree with Sal and the admins on this and ask that the option be available via some compromise like the 7 day idea - or you guys could at least make it entertaining al la

did you totally miss what most of us are now saying? we've moved off of the suicide button subject and on to random messages when a nation dies of normal causes (inactivity, modbomb, etc)

I agree with the suicide mode instead of instant death. This gives nations the ability to save themselves if they are hacked. Also, the little deletion messages would be a good touch.

I'll note that Moderators can force custom messages to appear when they DEAT nations. It's quite enjoyable to see Cog eat griefers in the Regional Happenings, for instance.

Why? We are requesting a change in the game code for cosmetic reasons......

Cute, but not necessary. The mods have enough stuff to do, what with some of the *ahem* people this game attracts. I like the idea, but I can't see it going anywhere.

No, it hasn't been adressed if you cared to read

He didn't adress simply changing the messages when a nation dies of normal causes to some random entertaining messages, he only adressed the "delete button"

No random messages coming either.

I did read. Random messages are already done by the mods in some cases, if you cared to pay attention to the game.

He didn't adress simply changing the messages when a nation dies of normal causes to some random entertaining messages, he only adressed the "delete button"

I think we all knew what the answer was going to be, and it was safe to assume what the answer was. ;)
