Does anyone mind if a "spinoff" is created?

A friend and I are trying to create a NationStates spinoff in php. It'd use databases, and would be a little more complex. For example you would be able to change tax rates on certain industries in real time, and we are thinking up other options on how you could be able to manage the nations through other means than issues (although they would still exist).

Anyways, my question is: What is NationState's general attitude towards this? Of course we would steal any issues (At least not word for word >_>) and we wouldn't try to defame NS in any way. The code will have to be 100% original, and we'll just have to feel out the ways the whole system will work.

As long as you try to make little reference to NS itself or use copyrighted portions of it, I'm sure you'll be fine. But I'm no lawyer.

You would probably need permission from Max Barry as he is the copyright holder for NationStates.

Aye, send an email to admin@nationstates.net, if Max doesn't read it himself, then perhaps the idea will be passed onto Max.

You could use the maxbarry.com email address, but I'm not sure if would be welcomed or not as it's non-NS related.

NS matters should be e-mailed to admin@nationstates.net or salusa@nationstates.net.

As long as there is no copyright infringement, there should be little hassle.

I wouldn't call it NationStates...
