My wife had a technical booboo when naming her country. How does she change the name without creating a whole new country?

She doesn't. You can't change your nation name without creating a new nation. So don't login to the old one for 28 days when it's not on Vacation Mode so it will die, and create the new one.

you don't have to wait for the other one to die before creating a new nation, though, just make sure that the old one is not in the UN if you plan on putting the new one in the UN.

I suppose the databases that make up NationStates work using the nation name, and if you were allowed to change it, everything would go out of whack and it would take ages, to say, change every instance of "Nation X" into "Nation Y".

Pretty much. It requires a lot of work to rename a nation without everything going FUBAR. All the interrelational files and arrays would go out of sync and you end up with a big mess.

That and if they did it for one nation, they'd have to do it for all nations.

Salusa has stated that NS doesn't run on anything resembling a modern database.

Had they the opportunity to redo it, they probably would ... but in the meantime they try to avoid overworking the lone hamster that actually powers the system.

Or the XML feeds (whatever those are)
