Because, when I made my nation, chose the wrong government-style. Will this affect anything? Is there anyway to change it?

It will affect how your stats are initially laid, but it may be reversible by answering issues in the direction you want them to go. It will take a while, but since there is no immediate fix other than to found a new nation, it's the best you've got.
In short, yes, and not easily.
