Wait, are we SUPPOSED to see that redirection page still?

It was a problem back when Jolt was new to us that we were directed to a blank page. Soon I heard it was fixed and everything was alright.

But I'm not clear on this, are we still supposed to see that redirection page?

Yes. Some useless, buggy, crappy browsers that should never be used (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx) don't always automatically redirect away from the login script, so that page allows you to forward yourself manually.

I'm a user of IE, and have been for many a year. I fail to see what some people see in the other browsers, as IE is far superior in every aspect.

Maybe with the sequel this issue will be fixed, but unless your connection is slow it doesn't make that much of a difference, now does it?

IE6 is working just fine, and it follows the automatic redirection script so I don't do anything manually. I just see the same thing everytime I come here so I wondered.

It is far superior in many ways.. Less vulnerable to security exploits built in popup blocker, and it's just cool. Check the firefox home page (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) for information on it.

I'm actually finding it difficult to think of any browser that isn't superior to IE.

NCSA Mosaic, maybe? :p

Yes. Praise be firefox. I suggest we ban the use of IE for the NS forums so that us superior browsers do not need to bear with a crappy redirect page just because of silly IEers. A link to firefox downloads would do just fine. :p

I get it with Firefox, mate.

Haha. Wow people who think IE is bad don't come out of this thread looking so smart. First they completely fail to understand the original question and then the browser that they plug to fix the problem does the same thing.

I see the redirect page sometimes whether I'm on the latest build of IE or Mozilla. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not; it appears, to me anymore, that I usually only see it during peak traffic times when Jolt's forums are inundated with posters.

I downloaded Firefox some time ago, and I have to say I'm yet to find any way in which it beats IE -- in fact, I find it turns out to be quite the opposite.

I am thoroughly entitled to this opinion so don't try and flame me, but instead play nice, children.

Yeah guys, I didn't mean for this to be a Firefox Vs. IE debate. Leave that for General. I meant for an answer and I think it's been answered in there amongst all the debate. I think...

Yes, the redirect page is present on both IE and Firefox, every time for me. This does not appear to be a browser-specific issue; it seems to me that the only way for the NationStates main page to log you in to Jolt is via that re-direct page. If it simply linked straight to the Jolt forums, it may require you to log in manually. Although I haven't really bothered to look into it, so that would just be a supposition.

So far as FireFox being a 'superior' browser goes, it is only superior in security issues. If you are smart, IE won't have security issues due to the other software you have installed. FireFox lacks support for websites, more than you'd think in fact. At work, for instance, we use a content management system for some of our websites which simply will not function correctly with FireFox. In addition, websites we create from scratch frequently need to be altered to function properly in FireFox after testing, even when those pages work fine in other browsers. FireFox also appears to be the less reliable of the two browsers; it has crashed on numerous occasions in a matter of weeks for me in normal operating conditions, whereas I can't remember the last time IE crashed. And so far as tabbed browsing goes, I don't see the appeal of that over tabbed windows; the tabs are just at the top of the page now, instead of the bottom. And it isn't the only, nor the first, browser to offer this anyway.
FireFox has the potential to be a great browser, but it still has a few things to work out. Maybe by version 2 it will be a serious alternative.

With all due respect, Colodia, I added to the thread to point out that it's not strictly a IE v. Firefox matter; it's a matter of time.

Organizational purposes. When modding, I'll often have three windows open: Forum, Mod Centre, Nation Page. New threads are opened in tabs, as are new events in the Centre. It's far easier to keep associated things in one window. It also makes switching from Forums to Centre much easier. That way I don't have to sift through numerous windows to do so.

I believe that Apple's Safari was the first browser to have tabs.

Also, as Safari is Mac only, it is 100% virus and spyware free. It also has a built in pop-up blocker that so far has not let me down even a single time. In addition, it includes a spell checker. Also, it was the first browser to have a built in google bar.

What's the difference between Mozilla and Firefox?

Mozilla's got a lot more features. But critics claim it's bloated so they made Firefox, which is streamlined. Until you download roughly eight trillion extensions, of course :P
