Alphabetic Jumping in Nation/Region browsing

The numbered pages are a good way to catalog such a large number of nations, but obviously it limits how fast you can scroll through the list. If I choose to view all nations in the world on a curiosity basis, by the time I'm up to page 200 or 300 (moving forward three pages at a time) I'm out of time or bored. It would be nice to be able to jump ahead to the first nation under a given letter in the alphabet. Something this might solve the problem:

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
< 1 2 3 ... 1056 1057 1058>

Yes, you can, but it's still an ineffective way of locating a particular region or what-not... this has been suggested many-a-time before, not going to happen in the near future.

We've heard this request before, and I would like it if we could implement it, but it is decidedly not easy so we're still trying to figure out the best ways of doing it.

well i dont know entierly how a script works nor how to right one it seems they can do many things
why not have one that gose of at some point once a day that gose through the nation list, have it sort by first charicter, and send the results to some page on the site it wont be 100% accurate but it would be damn close

Since Salusa is the only one who would be doing the coding, and since he's answered already, ... why would it matter what anyone else had to say?

The word has been given, and it is "No".

Salusa is the primary coder for NS, I think he knows what type of script/code would be needed to accomplish this task and as such his "no" would be a very credited source of knowledge.

The Salsa-man can correct me if I'm wrong, but what I remember from various discussions is that the problem is with the core code of the game. Since it was never intended to be this large, certain short-cuts were taken when the game was made. As I recall, the game would pretty much have to be completely rewritten for alphabetic searches.

Trust me, I know all of the tricks in the book, including how I would do it, however it requires a decent amount of work and more importantly time which I do not have. At the moment, unless it takes under about 5 minutes to code or is critical, I don't have the time to address it.
