Would it be possible or practical to get a UN report on the oldest nations in the world?

If not could there be a page where their displayed like on the old forums?

Not really, no. Nation "birthdays" weren't recorded originally, so any nation from before Aug 2003 or so won't have one, which means that all those nations won't have a recordable start date. The UN population ranking is as close as you'll get, and that's got errors too (like the fact that the oldest extant nation ranked around 45th last time).

Wait a sec. So what is the start date listed under someone's profile then?

If a nation has never been resurrected, is that not an accurate start date?

No... jolt messed up quite a few join dates during the move, especially on nations that had never posted on the old forums. And they aren't recorded anywhere in the game itself, is what I think MoA is saying.

Largely, yeah. Also, if the game was to run an "Oldest Nations In The World" script, it wouldn't be checking forum information anyway.

Even if it did, that wouldn't work, as all nations that existed prior to the move would have the exact same join date on the Forums - correct?

No.... There are dates for nations that existed before the move. Not all nations older than the move have the same start date. And the dates largely correspond to their population. So it seems like the dates are a decent representation of start date.

Problems arise with nations that have ceased to exist before the move and been resurrected.

Well, could we then have a UN report ranking nations from largest to smallest?

Wouldn't exactly work anyway. The infamous Pop Bug has apparently been removed... But on the other hand, apparently a small number of issues (think the Refugees want to call NATION NAME Home) apparently increase the population growth rate.

Jofisovich or however you spelt it was once the biggest nation (over 4 bil!) but wasn't the biggest. So population size does not relate directly (not always) to oldest nation.

You're absolutely right. What I'm saying is that since it is impossible to determin the age of nations through the NS engine, could we at least have a UN report which would allow as periodic insight into where we rank in terms of size.

un reports are random, and there is a un report for this we just have to wait

I remember in the old forum, the url for accesing a nations profile was based on a profile number (mine was 820 something). Where these numbers only recorded in the forum accounts or in the nations accounts as well?

Forum, most likely. But I don't quite know what that has to do with anything...

i see where he's going
maybe those numbers were assigned to all nations even if they did not post sence the forums were on ns and maybe they went in order of nation creation

That then depends on someone having the old forum records. Could there possibly be a backup somewhere of the forum data?

*hopes really really hard* :D

Incorrect. Issues have absolutely ZERO affect on population growth. None. Zip. Zero.

Issues affecting population growth is the "Good Times Virus" of NationStates...

There is a Largest Population UN ranking. We last had it on September 20, 2004.

Last Hope is.
