Random Kingdom

Oh, come on. The UN is one of the big things about NationStates. It makes up one third of the game - the issues, the UN and the Jolt forums. Without it Random Kingdom would be without its form of advertisement, and people would be waging war every day.

People are waging war every day. :headbang:

The only thing I think people would really miss if we axed the U.N. would be the invading factor.

I tend to be annoyed by folks (not just you, AZ) who see their chosen interest(s) as the only valid ones. While it's far from the most popular forum, the UN does have fans who like the concept of arguing about international law. As for me, I wouldn't miss invasions at all.

saying we dont need the UN is sort of a slap in the face of the programmers, think of how much code the UN is... very much... are you saying all of that work was for nothing? I rather like invasions as well, though I am now a retired raider.

Does not everyone, however, see their interests as the most valid? Besides, there has been times when the UN has decided things that should be issues individual nations should sort out on their own. My nation's decision to, for example, legalize illicit drugs, or ban abortion, has little to no impact on the international front, yet people push this through the UN anyway and make it law for everyone: witness the Abortion Rights proposal back in the day. If the UN is going to legislate on these petty things, and not on international matters like piracy, or terrorism, or the environment, then why do we have them in place?
As for invasions, they are an interesting element, and probably the only reason a lot of nations join the U.N. in the first place, they're the only "real," so-to-speak, shows of strength and power that actually affect the game.
Finally, I'm not saying we should slash the UN, I'm just playing devil's advocate and voicing my dissatisfaction with the organization.

Ahh, the subtle joys of inflicting law you despise on nations you don't care about. Gotta love it.

Between your position and mine, I think we've sufficiently denied Kitsious' original objection, wouldn't you say?

I used to dislike invasions and was completely turned off on that part of the game ... then a ton of people got it through my skull that I could avoid that aspect of the game if I moved to a region with a region founder who was also not interested in ban/ejecting nations.

I did, and now I don't mind that part of the game at all. In fact, I'm convinced that to many people invasion / defense helps to keep things dynamic.

I'm a big fan of the idea of nations working together to draft up international laws. And I like the idea of watching somebody come up with an idea and getting to see their idea voted upon by others. (I'll admit that I feel bad when resolutions get sent down ... but hey that is just how I feel about it, and I could be in the minority of players there.)

Anyway, there are in fact pro-UN players in the game. We aren't a myth. :)

We're not removing the UN.

Why was this even left open? Lock.
