Save Sent Telegrams

Sandpit

It would be very convenient if the sender of a telegram could save a copy of each sent telegram in his/her telegrams folder. Would it be possible to do that? Looking forward to a polite response.

Thank you,

Telegram box would fill up really fast.
You would lose telegrams sent to you.
Why add code when Microsoft Word will do?

In other words, it won't be added ;)

Microsoft Word.
Gee, never thought of that.
Thank you, but still, it would be a good idea.
Most forums have a "save sent message" option, and it doesn't cause any problems.

I may be mistaken, but I think the limit to the number of telegrams you can keep is 15. I've lost a couple when I didn't clean out my TGs.

I believe the question he's asking is a little different than the one that Carinthe asked.

Instead of a separate save box, Sandpit wants the ability to save a copy of a telegram to his already existing inbox. In effect, sending the telegram to 2 nations simultaneously.

I'm not sure if that specific question has been answered before.

Coding a save box to allow saving of sent TG's is first grade stuff.

Still doesn't mean they feel like doing it, and there are probably 100 things that are more important than this that need to happen...

like bringing back forum 7....

edit: oh and I wish the smallest text could be smaller, like back on the old forums.. oh well

You could put it in a spoiler box. Use tags
to end, and
to open.

But anyway, back on topic, even a seperately coded save box would put a TON of stress on the server. The game is slow enough as it is, even without having to deal with it's own forum.

Actually, the additional server load wouldn't be too bad, but it isn't worth my time. I have too many other things to do and you can copy/paste into any text editor.

To get off topic for a second, I have seen nations holding 18 or more telegrams. I also was under the impression that the limit was 15.

You mean you have had nations with 15 or more - you can't see another nation's TG's. How much is the limit? I wasn't aware there was one in the first place.

If you receive more than 15 telegrams, the oldest ones in your list are deleted so you only can have 15 in the box. A glitch in this though, is if you are only receiving system telegrams (UN notifications and such), and don't receive any player telegrams, then the older telegrams won't be deleted. Of course if you are active at all, you would be receiving telegrams...

Hmm. So it is possible to have 18 TG's, if the three oldest are from, say, The Compliance Ministry?

yes indeed, I had 19 going one time but then some dude decided to telegram me and they deleted.

Now THAT would be useful!

Or just a report button and that makes an auto-message or something on the mods tasklist?

Perhaps we need more coders?

By the way, I understand that Jolt supplies the coders for NS2, otherwise we could lower its costs by using volunteer coders.

I don't know about that... then some people would report anything they thought was at all bad. As opposed to having to decide if it was worth it to keep it in their inbox.

Plus, I thought the tasklist was consistently long enough. Adding a message each time for a bad telegram? *imagines the list getting out of hand* :p

I don't think, though I could be wrong if someone could point me in the right direction, that that's right.

Yeah it's long, or so I hear, but it won't grow any longer or bigger, the same amount of TM's will be reported on average, just from a different place.

As useful as this is, and however much us players may or may not want it, I really doubt it's gonna be added as there is already means for us to report TM's. I'm sure the admin's time could be spent better elsewhere.

No. For that you can use the Getting Help Page - they have a special report category just for that.

But I would think, if you had to report a series of TGs, that reporting each one in turn would generate more entries on the tasklist than just one Getting Help report.

So that would mean more work. Right? :)

No. The last thing the mods need is even more "paperwork" to sort through. They get tons of reports each day, and having multiple reports for the same offense would be even worse.

When you get charged with sending abusive telegrams, you are given one single warning or ban - not one for each telegram you sent.

Just my .02 on this whole matter.

Personally, knowing that there's only room for fifteen telegrams per inbox of a regular player - I do believe mods have more room - then, saving telegrams in the inbox would prevent other telegrams from being able to enter said inbox.

What I do is simple: I copy and past telegrams I want to save in Word documents and title them appropriately so I can cycle through the ones I need/want at a given time.

Unless there's unlimited capacity granted to an inbox, which I doubt is on any high priority list, then, the idea of saving telegrams is equally unimportant.

As stated, just my .02.

I know of that, but this way users, especially 56k modem users, won't have to go through several pages, think of it as more of a shortcut. I don't expect this feature to be coded in though, the current system works well and doesn't need changing, I'm just suggesting I personally would find it useful time to time.

But I would think, if you had to report a series of TGs, that reporting each one in turn would generate more entries on the tasklist than just one Getting Help report.

You wouldn't report a series of TM's, just one button saying a abriev'ed version of "Hey Mod's, look at my inbox!"

Mods need to look into your inbox to check a 'bad' TM anyway, and will be able to see that there is more than one bad TM in there.

So on the tasklist, perhaps it would say something like "Report from "Neo England"'s Telegram inbox." Mods have a look at the inbox and sort out all the violating TM's there.

(I hope that made sense to others, :/ )

Anyway, I should state now that I'm not asking for the feature, just saying the pro's and con's of it. I also don't believe it will added :P

Hmm. Please forgive my lack of sympathy, but quite frankly, if you people are STILL using 56k modems - switch to DSL. It's a whole heck of a lot faster, doesn't tie up your phone line, and I think by now it's cheaper anyway.

And the rest of that made sense to me, at least, Neo.

Anyway, we have now thoroughly killed, buried, and memorialized the topic of the save box. Can a mod PLEASE lock this so we quit seeing it up here day after day?

Wow, I'm surprised that my thread is so popular.
But I'll rather see it up here day after day than to have it locked.
Having every other thread locked makes our forum look bad: people will think that either most of us are rowdy flamers, or that there is some type of censorship going on.
The thread will die eventually.

Since no one has answered TH's question:

- In the news section, under 10 May 2004, it says: "Jolt and I will partner to develop NationStates 2, the mysterious and hotly debated sequel to NationStates." (Link) (http://www.nationstates.net/news/2004/05/10/index.html#jolt)

- When someone offered his services as a coder/programmer in the NS2 forum, Myrth locked the thread with a message saying "Jolt has the coders".

Actually, Sandpit, threads are locked to allow new issues to come up. Many threads are locked for flaming purposes, yes, but the same is the case in most of these public forums. In Moderation, when a report has been dealt with, the thread is locked to allow new reports to come in and be easily seen, and to prevent argument between the offender and the reporter. Here, basically the same thing, but preventing unnessecary disscussion, as is happening here.

Which is why I am requesting the lock.

True, and personally I have a non 56k modem, but many users worldwide still use 56k. Ah well.
