Can you have a war?

I hear and see things about role playing a war. How do you do this? How does it work?

It's only as you said - role-play. You just say you're at war with someone on the forums here, and act it out.

The only real war in NationStates is region-crashing. There is a fine line between that and griefing, however, so be careful when you do. That involves moving a bunch of UN nations into a region, electing one of them Delegate, and taking over. It becomes griefing when the new delegate ejects everyone who was in the region, or posts offensive messages about them. As I said, it's better to just do role play, if you must beat the heck out of someone's nation.

But if you do decide to do this "RP war" thing, be sure to read all of the stickies about it, and lurk and observe a couple of wars that other people have, so you can get a feel for how to do it. I believe most wars and such take place in the international incidents forum of the nationstates forums. But don't quote me on that.

I think they're supposed to be in Gameplay, actually. Don't quote me on that, either, however.

i wonder if anybody actually knows where it is supposed to be.. or maybe if they all just randomly post and hope they got it in the right place....

So even though I don't do it, from watching... wars go in International Incidents, NOT Gameplay.

NationStates is also a forum for In Character discussions.

Go... explore. See where the RPs of people attacking each other are located.

Hersfold, I'm wondering why you seem to feel compelled to answer questions that you obviously don't know the answer to. Wouldn't it be better if you only posted the answers you were positive about?

Most wars are in I.I. Some are RPed in NationStates, but they tend to be more character based than army based. Gameplay is for regional invasions and has nothing to do with Roleplay. You can quote me on that.

Good point, but one answer on Hersfold's behalf COULD be so that a mod' can correct him/her at a later date and therefor know for next time.

I'm aware of this as well. But given that an expert will eventually answer this, wouldn't reading the correct answer serve equally well, or even better than several wrong answers? Second guessing with uncertain answers is actually counter-productive in these two forums, as the reader may go away thinking the question has been answered, and totally screw himself.

I would trust Hersfold completely on matters pertaining to the UN, where I know him to be well versed. However, answering questions in Technical and Moderation should be left to those who are certain they know the answers, in particular the Mods and Admins. Linking to a known answer is another good approach for the non-mod. I can quickly scan the last 200 topics (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1224&page=1&sort=lastpost&order=&pp=200) and find the answer to almost all common questions in just a minute or two.

And Hersfold isn't the only one who does this, just one I thought knew better.

:) Thank you very much, Fris. (referring to UN comment)

I thought they were supposed to be in Gameplay, and was about 80% sure, so went ahead and posted it. I'll try to get my facts straighter next time. Sorry for the confusion.
