Pardon my ignorance, but...

My UN title recently changed, which now reads: New York Times Democracy. Now I'm familiar with democracy, but could someone elaborate on what exactly a New York Times Democracy is meant to infer? o.o; Many thanks in advance.

Is this the "I'm not helping you" silence, or the "I don't feckin' know" silence? o.O Anyhow. One bump and then I'll let it die. Much thanks in advance.

I think it means that its a democracy, but opposition is controlled.

I am not sure.

I don't know what it means technically, but, going on the liberal slant that the NYT puts on their news stories, I would think that it means you have a liberal leaning democracy. One way to tell....do you believe what Michael Moore says? Do you believe Kerry really has a firm position on anything other than increasing taxes? If you answered yes to both of these questions, then you are definitely a by-product of NYT thinking.

What I've heard is that a New York Times Democracy is one in which elections are heavily influenced by the media (*cough*US*cough). I'm not sure on this, but *shrug* it makes sense.

Some UN categories are quite amusing.

Shouldn't this be in Technical?

Hmm... interesting. Thanks for taking the time to help. :)

I'm Canadian, so I only have minimal knowledge of John Kerry. :\ I've heard quite a bit about Michael Moore, but I haven't seen any of his works, so I don't really know what to believe about him. I am pretty liberally slanted though, so that could very well be it. Thanks. ^_^

First, thanks in advance for your help. ^_^ The reason I didn't put this in technical is because I wasn't asking about a feature of the game, but a political affiliation. My apologies if it doesn't belong here.

On the game mechanics side, a New York Times Democracy is a NationState with moderate Personal Freedoms, moderate Economic Freedoms, and high Political Freedoms.

The game describes a New York Times Democracy as a nation whose compassionate, intelligent population enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

There's a graphical interpetation of the UN classifications. This should help when you're trying to figure out what exactly things mean:
