When I created my nation, I messed up and didn't select the type of government and what not that I meant to. Is there any way my nation can be removed, so that I can recreate it the way I meant to?

Nope no way to fix it, just vote on issues until it becomes what you want it to.

Hmm. Ok. I do think there should be an explanation when you start setting up your nation of how different types of government will effect your nation, though, so others can avoid this mistake.

You can start fresh with a new nation (which will have to have a different name).
Other than the items listed in your Settings panel (animal, currency, etc..) the initial choices are indeed irreversible for a nation.
