GDP Calc

I was just wondering if anyone knew how GDP Calc (http://www.pipian.com/stuffforchat/gdpcalc.php) works?
As it's not part of the site, I'm guessing it doesn't acess the database directly, so does anyone know how it gets its data such as Economy and Population?

The reason I ask is becuase I'm thinking of making a page with calculates all my military stats automatically, and don't want to have to update it every day.

Don't use the pipan calc, it dosen't take into account your tax rate. Use this one: http://www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php?nation=Nibbleton

aha, and you can get their source code too :)

Irritating the way it makes up its own exchange rate for my currency tho

Thanks,

I'm not particularly impressed by thirdgeek's calculator, either. When you actually look into it... the verbal "corruption" indicators in the nation description aren't what they use for governmental efficiency - which thirdgeek actually squares overall in providing total governmental efficiency - and much of the other effects are designed around boosting low tax rates into arbitrarily higher budgets and exponentiating a base GDP per capita assumption that comes off of an unrealistically justified GDP per capita table that's been kicking around a long time. Basically, the idea seems to be to make rich nations look twice as rich, and poor nations ten times as poor. Doesn't really work out realistically.

The basic method of GDP calculators is to assume a relationship between economy ratings (and sometimes some other stuff + economy ratings) and GDP. Generally speaking, the simple way would be to look at RL nations, find one that seems to suit your nations' descriptors, and then apply more or less that same GDP per capita to it. For most nations, a rough tax rate * GDP range gives you a reasonable budget range, and then you should consider how efficiently it is being spent - how expensive labor and materials are, or just how much gets eaten up in bribes and graft.

Yeah, you can only use it though if your region is small enough to pull out the date. My name nor my region ever work, and there's no intent to fix it so larger regions will work. :headbang:
