I note that despite leaving it "no email notification" the checkmark shows I'm going to be notified by e-mail.
I'd say that would be a bug - ;)

I note that despite leaving it "no email notification" the checkmark shows I'm going to be notified by e-mail.The checkmark shows that you're subscribed. If you have "No email notification" selected, I think you can check up on subscribed threads from your profile, but you won't get an email.

Choose "do not subscribe" as the default instead. It's right above "no email" in the little drop down box.
