Glad To See An IGNORE Feature!!

Now I can IGNORE, for real..people who annoy me. It will make it a lot easier to avoid flamewars if I don't have to look at people who make me see red!!

I can say right now the IGNORE feature will be heavily used by me. With very few exceptions, conservo-creeps and others who refuse to agree with me (since I am always right) will simply get the IGNORE cannon!

I don't get it. Where is it?

Check out your profile. There's a 'buddies/ignore' list there.

I'm not sure if it applies to actual posts. Would be nice if so.

If I had to guess, I'd bet the feature is for Personal Messaging only. Then again, I'm basing this only on a hunch, so don't hold me to it if I'm wrong.

IT WORKS!!

I just tested it on Unfree People...and then looked at this thread again...it shows Unfree People made a post, but not the content of the posting, instead it says something to the effect of ignored, because Unfree People is in your Ignore list.

Then I took Unfree People out of my Ignore List...since I out them there only to test the function. And now I can see his post again.

This is TERRIFIC!!!

I no longer have to look at anyone's posts that do not agree with me!!

HOORAY!!!

No more conservo-creeps!!

I no longer have to look at posts that irritate me, by having a wrong opinion...I can just IGNORE them! I expect to be heavily using this function, because I quite frankly don't wanna look at ANYTHING that doesn't agree with me, since I am always right!

and the best part about it is - We'll be able to make fun of you in front of you, and you'll never see it - thereby making sure everyone laughs at you, and you being clueless since you can't see it!

Tis indeed a great feature. You'll continue to be clueless, and we'll all be laughing at you.

The nice thing about the ignore feature is that it keeps those who are already in the dark,... in the dark. Hmmm, conservo creep? Pray tell, what is this?

Ah, I noticed that Jolt doesn't seem to have PMs, so that's good that it applies to posts.

The FAQ says:

"Ignore lists are used for those people who's messages you wish not to read. By adding someone to your ignore list, those messages posted by these individuals will be hidden when you read a thread."

I think the ignore feature should be gotten rid of. It'll only be used by narcissi.

I don't care WHAT you do, as long as I do not have to look at it. Besides, if you ARE engaging in such activities, others with be sure to inform me so that I can inform Mods.

I have been in one flame war too many, and I refuse to risk having my nation DEATed, because of another flame-war. Mods never respond quickly enough to provokation, in my opinion. This way, I am insured I can act on my own to avoid the problem entirely, by looking only at postings from people who agree with me.

And you just made my list, Humor Troll. Welcome to it. You are the ninth person now to win my all-expense paid vacation package...a one-way trip to Ignoreland, courtesy of ValuJet! Enjoy your flight.

Oh, and by the way...I just checked this...I can still see people I have ignored, if they are post-quoted by a non-ignored nation...so, no, you can't make fun of me without me knowing it.

And I can, if I see such a post, quickly scroll past it. Or I can see if you are making fun of me. and if you are, then I'll expect Mods to take action.

I do not wish to be baited by people...and it seems to me the conservatives here absolutely LIVE to bait the liberals (smart people) around here, and absolutely infuriate them.

I refuse to be drawn into this anymore, now that I can simply stick my fingers in my ears and refuse to listen to points of view that do not agree with my own.

I hate conservatives...I refuse to listen to anything they have to say. End of story.

I am merely pointing out I am glad to see an Ignore feature, simply because (and this is not really thier fault...they are overworked and underpaid) Mods do not, in my experience, react quickly enough to flamebaiting. Then I get drawn in, and I end up getting in trouble. This way, I stay out of trouble. The power is now in MY hands. I don't have to wait for someone else to come along and deal with the problem. I can deal with it on my own. And I do it by sticking my fingers in my ears and singing la-la-la-la-laaaa, I can't heeeeaaaaarrrrrr you....

No it isn't. It is stating my honestly held belief that most smart people are liberals. Did I ever SAY all conservatives were dumb? Now THAT would be baiting.

I actually find very few Conservatives bait the Liberals, anyway

I think it is a good idea for RPs but does take away the spirit of the general forum, where anyone can make their view, and if someone chooses to ignore, it does to a degree show their inability to debate against it.

Good on you. It works, doesn't it?

I tested it on Unfree People, as stated above. Of course, I also took him right back OFF my Ignore list, since he never did anything to earn being on it. I merely used him to test it.

And anyone who wants to ignore me...hey, terrific by me. I could care less.

You know, my right of free speech means I have a right to SAY what I want. It is NOT a right to be heard. And if you want to ignore me, at least now you have that choice.

just as I have that choice.

Let the conservatives speak. It is their right. It is also MY right to not have to hear them. And now I don't have to.

Oh, I can debate against it just fine...but not in a civilised manner. Not without resorting to name-calling and ad-hominem attacks that woiuld get me in trouble with mods. I've been in one too many flame wars, I'm taking no more chances, now that the power is in my hands.

The point of this whole thread was my expressing my joy at finally being able to take control, and not be drawn in, and provoked.

Our overworked and underpaid Mods cannot possibly out out all the fires quickly enough. This gives ME the ability to contain/control the situation by simply choosing to ignore people with whom I feel I cannot debate with IN A CIVIL MANNER.

I'm happy to debate anyone holding an opposite view of mine, if they can do it without flame-baiting and lying, and sourcing their claims...and refraining from doing other things that annoy the hell outta me.

Being a conservative doesn't automatically get you ignored by me. I first scan the contents of the post, and if I decide it is more than I can handle in a rational civilised manner, THEN they get ignored.

the main thing that irritates me is conservatives who make outlandish claims and do not source them. And demagogue them as FACT. Or use Bush Administration-spun numbers to justify outlandish claims, and then expect me to debate them in a rational manner, when they are attacking everything I believe in.

Yes, I actually find it much easier to debate in person than on NS, it doesn't descend as quickly.

quite true!

It really is easy to begin levelling ad-hominem and personal attacks against someone you aren't looking at face to face.

I remember a famous observation by George Carlin:
"I've been calling A-Holes for a lotta years now, and one thing I have noticed is...the closer you are to them, the nicer they are...someone on TV, for example, (shout) This guy's an a-hole!!(/shout) someone who cuts you off on the highway is (loud) pretty much an a-hole(/loud) and someone in front of you at the checkout...(mumble) this guy's an a-hole...(/mumble) Yes, the closer you are, the nicer they get!"
LOL

No, in all seriousness, it really is very easy for things online to degenerate really quickly, because of the impersonal nature of it. It's real easy to level personal and ad-hominem attacks against someone you will never actually have to FACE....

Then again, maybe not - Labrador's telegrams would cram my inbox hourly...

Which illustrates the frailty of your platform. Yelling and screaming and stamping your feet does nothing but convey the frustration of not having relevant facts and details to back up your beliefs.

That and provide a source of amusement...

Gosh I love this ignore thing... Mwah hahahahah ahahhaha hahahhaha

Hmmm... I've been of the mind that if you have a good opinion, wouldn't you want to debate it and talk about it? It only serves to strengthen your belief or standing. It provides a chance to learn the "other" sides beliefs and affords you the opportunity learn how best to counter their arguments. What I found humorous (and this is not in offense to Labrador) is that Labrador's liberal views are implicit in her desire to ignore conservo-creeps. Yet, (just me) liberals are generally all about free speech, "open-mindedness" and the desire to do what feels "right". Wanton use of the ignore button to shut out dissenting opinion would appear to be in conflict with the most basic of tenets. On the other hand, I do appreciate that there are those who can be flaming pricks on either side. So, to sum up, I likewise approve of the IGNORE WMD... <---------- Hahahaha *sweet*

In general, Ignore isn't worth it. Human curiosity always wins over the desire to not see something. Think about it...

If you were ignoring me, you'd still see that I had posted here. Chances are, you'd get curious about just what it was I was saying, possibly assuming it would be something highly offensive (which would further strengthen your desire to ignore me). So you unignore me, read my post, get pissed (or not), and re-ignore me (or not).

Eventually it becomes too labor intensive, and too confusing (because people won't always quote what the ignored player is saying, and people like me will make up responces just to further confuse) and just generally not worth the bother.

Which is why very few people ever use ignore for more than a few days.

LOL - but then you'll have a lemming like me, posting right after you - refuting everything that you said, and you'll have no response since you'd of been "ignoring" me.

Labrador is essentially muzzling herself. Of her own free will no less.

Delicious... :)
