Editing Your Old Posts

How can you edit your previously posted threads (i.e. pre-jolt)? If this option is temporarily disabled then okay but if its not then there will be a serious problem throughout NS.

I'm having the same problem.

Yeah that's not good to do especially since a lot of the old storefronts and such had to be edited. Now we have to start new ones? No offense but. I have the Layartebian Chronicles, 21 parts worth and posts and such...

Being an experienced vB user, I am certain vB itself allows a certain time limit(up to 360 hrs I think) for editing

so max is 360 hours to edit from previous edit or total?

I mean, vB allows up to 360 hrs, its up to Jolt to change it. And tis since original post.

Well they're going to have to change it for the NS section of the forums, cause we have to constatly revise our threads and 360 hours isn't very long.

I've already made a thread about this, but I'll explain it here anyway. Editing here is like deleting, you can only do it if nobody has responded to your posts yet. It's not that we can't edit our old threads, it's just that those old posts that we want to edit have been replied to and thusly are off-limits. The Mods have yet to respond to my thread asking if this is permanent, or just part of the switch.

Editing here is like deleting, you can only do it if nobody has responded to your posts yet.Nhere's a 15-minute limit to editing. Yesterday I was trying to fix something in a post I just made, but by the time the forums responded, the limit had apparently passed, and I got a message telling me this.

The page seems too wide, and its cutting off the section I need to do so.

That would sound like a browser problem, not a Jolt problem

Indeed. You *can* edit your posts... but only for a few minutes.

I spotted all sorts of silly spelling errors when I checked back on one of my posts the other day... and there are storefronts, and memberlists, and things you change in roleplays. In RP especially, you often post someone and then someone else will say 'hey change this bit'. It goes for all sorts of things! Really, I would like to chip in my support for editing ability because we really need it.
Layarteb

Indeed this is definitely a major problem. Stickies, storefronts, large RPs, etc. need to have this feature.

We must bring this to the attention of the mods.

EVERYONE WHO READS THIS PLEASE RESPOND BECAUSE THIS FEATURE IS PARAMOUNT TO NS AND RP'ING!!!

This stinks worse than a big dog with 'back door trots' (aka green apple quick step) A long term edit function must be implemented or there wil be a whole mess of very annoyed nations around here. I keep the Great List of Ex-Nations that prints out at 13 pages and if I have to re-enter the whole list every I want to update I may as well close the hall down and not bother with it anymore. I spent a whole day going the old Hall, all 20 pages of it and orginazing it into one list that could be updated rather than having updates scattered through the whole thread. :(

We desperately need an edit. What the hell do they expect storefront owners to do, recreate the entire storefront every time they want to add a new item? Without edit, the whole forum is going to break down into mass spamming as people have to repost stuff instead of just changing it. Lovely mess they've made here.

I've definitely got some agreement going on with the sentiments here. I've looked back at all my old posts... and low and behold, spelling errors and such I never bothered to fix due to the old forum's suckiness.

And now, with the greatness of Jolt, there are those errors I was hoping to fix...

And I can't.

My smartass comment on another board about the "little things".

They're working on it. Apparently it's one of those "little problems" that doesn't matter all that much but is somehow central to NS, kinda like the edit and search functions. Makes you want to recreate the French Revolution, with Mods a la Nobles getting either a whiff of grapeshot or Monsieur Le Guillotine.

Hi hi eveyone...just the answers to a few of the questions being raised.

Forum speed.
Should be sorted v soon - we blame keef - we asked for swords he brought daggers.

Avatars
Jolt is actually anti avatars because in the dim and distant past when 99% of folks were on dial-up we didn't want the forums "lagged" by ooodles of meaningless pictures. However we incorporated a set of forums where some users had been entitled to avatars and we had complaints from existing jolt users that it was not fair that they couldn't have them. So we created a 'premium forum account' (https://secure.jolt.co.uk/index.php?page=premiums.htm) whereby you can have an avatar and we disable the forum ads. The only other ways to get an avatar are:

1. Make 10,000 posts
2. Become a moderator
3. Do something supremely good/bad that an Admin feels deserves an avatar

Searching
Currently disabled until the forum performance/maintenance is sorted

Editing
15mins is the rule apologies to those who wish to edit typos etc.etc.

Images and the like
You can include - it's just that we won't pay for the bandwidth + there's performance issues. So you can put up a pic, only you need to host it on your own webspace.

The other queries can be sorted by fiddling with your settings to show/hide certain features....have a tinker some of the forum features are quite neat.

So in anticipation of the performance issue being resolved v.soon - Enjoy.

Some things that need to be cleared up. As for picture hotlinking, we aren't asking that Jolt host images, just that the images appear when the image tag is inputed. As for the editing, it needs to be put unlimited on the NS forums or people are going to start screaming for heads on pikes. I know things can be done on a per-forum basis, so there's no reason that it shouldn't be so here.

Images do appear. You have to go into your profile and screw around with your display settings.

When I try to make ammends to my storefront, because of suggestions that people point out I cannot. Surely the NS mods want to keep the amount of threads to a minimum, so the server doesn't crash/go snail speed, so why have they put a time limit on editing? It just creates more work for the servers when we have to post new threads every time we update.

Someone needs to fix this. I am going to complain to the Mods on IRC.

As much as I like Jolt, the 15mins rules screws storefronts, also all of the list threads and war RP posts for keeping track of casualties. Editting is incredibly useful and I dont see why it can't be activated without a time limit.

1. Only last post edittable within 15 minutes after posting
2. No avatars
3. Style
4. No linking nation in profile

I'm not whining about the search, that'll be fixed in time as well as the forum speed issues. I'm really disappointed in the new forum because some things which made the old forum much better aren't being enabled here. Why in Gods name is there a rule which limits the time to edit a post? Why don't we have avatars? I'm sure someone on the old forum told us that we can have our flag as avatar. I don't like the new style, but that's my taste.
No linking to nations in ones profile? That's what made the old forum so cool, no copy and pasting like here.

I don't thing anyone made a mistake by moving to Jolt but there are a few small yet very important things that need to be changed. How can you, like Scandinavian States said post a storefront and when you want to add or change something you must make a new post? Thats not a problem if its only 2 pages long but the big storefronts with over 50 pages?

Just my opinion...

EDIT: this was ment as a reply.
The Most Glorious Hack

And so they were merged.

"1. Only last post edittable within 15 minutes after posting"

Nothing the NS Mods can do about that. We can try and have Jolt change it (like we did for the character limit on our forums), but no promises.

"2. No avatars"

Didn't have them on NS, and never garanteed that we'd have them here. Also, flag-avatars isn't the highest on the current list of concerns.

"3. Style"

People complained about NS's style too.

"4. No linking nation in profile"

That's an integration issue. It took a lot just to get the game-to-forum bridge working. Hopefully this will be fixed at some point, but, again, not high on the list of concerns.

I'm 100% sure there's in vBulletin an option which allows admins to run a subforum like a seperate one. The people who are granted this are in control of all options and don't affect the parent forums.

We'll look into the editing feature....it *may* not be an issue for us to change it globally across all the forums...and/or create a sub forum for special needs ;-)

I can live without an avatar, infact I think a signature is a pretty nifty idea.
I do happen to agree on the editing problem, but if it is a function that cannot be bypassed in the vbulletin code, then there isnt much we can do about it. Storefronts could be hosted off site, if needs be.

All forums have growing pains, these will definately be some of them.
