Cross-over of our flags to Forum avatars here.

Why is it our national flags do not show up as our forum avatars? If our nation name transfers seamlessly, I don't see how it would be any harder to do the same for our national flag. It helps give more national personality to our name, and helps make it more recognizable when noticed within game play to give a "face" to the individual behind the nation noticed here.

probably because these are bad forums. if you had to transfer flags as avatars the forums would crash even more. with all the posting, searching, browsing, and mod actions the forums are already bad enough. with a constant flow of flags being changed and updated as avatars would just kill it forever.

Yeah, it was something that I intended to add, then the forum was under so much strain that I decided not to.

After we get to new servers, hopefully it's something we can add. It would be very cool. :)

cool, can we get slightly bigger flag limits for older nations as well, like say 12K for nations with a billion + population?

Yes! Then I can make my flag AS BIG AS THE PAAAAAGGGEEEE!!!

I'd have a more reasonable size - 8-9 perhaps?

I'd say that it is a good idea in principle, but it could be abused I guess. If someone gets one of those mondo huge flags, that could be trouble if flags aren't scaled down. I'd imagine that you'd just define the size in the <img /> tag, so it'd be easy.

Why not use avatars like normal forums? xcomufo has no problem with avatars, and they already have 3,098 members (Not to mention the animated signatures and avatars there. Just look at the bottom of this page (http://www.xcomufo.com/forums/index.php?showuser=1171) and you have an example. And due to the fact that it is a video game develpment forum, it also has all the concepts for the stuff there

I don't much like that idea. first, avatars are annoying. then, you get people complaining about wanting custom avatars... plus we have a lot more than 3000 posters, let alone members.

i do, however, think flags arent a half-bad idea...

why not make one big post saying: "CUSTOM AVATARS ALLOWED"

And post in it saying you can use any image you wish (as long as it is appropriate)

Because that's even more annoying, IMHO. You get flashy things and annoying pictures and... well, I don't like them. Half the appeal of these forums to me is that they're clean. Not like some, which are more crowded with graphics and customization than content.

Tehn how about you put rules about them. Like, "IF you do this, then we will delete your avatar. no animations and no avatars more than X kilobytes

Personally I beleive that to keep the Avatar situation should be either,
None at all,
or
whatever your current flag is.
it is that simple,
I personally beleive that we Do not need custom avatars. here as they are already there, your flag is your nations Avatar.

and there is the less fun, but more orderly solution :(

OK; here's an idea that's a temporary solution, only the pre-selectable real-themed flags that a nation can start with come up as avatars, everyone with a custom uploaded flag will have no avatar, but that way you know they have a unique flag and so can then click the link to their nation to view said unique flag.

wont work that will cause more trouble than it is worth,

it will make folks who have custom flags upset,
it needs to be No avatars or whatever your current one is. scaled to 107x71 of course, most good forum software can do that.

why not just have your own customizable avatar that fits what the forum guidlines are

Got nothing much to add to what UP said....

I have a custom flag and it wouldn't make me upset, it would make my posts stand out as more stream-lined and less cluttered and "tag" those who haven't taken the time upload their own. Those who it does upset might now have a reason to pick a common flag to take strain off the in game server also. Most who use the forums, frequent the game enough to have all the default flags already in their cache anyway so I wouldn't worry about any more problems here, it would be at least one indicator of what users took the time for custom flags from here so that we may click on their nation out of interest without the possibility of coming across a default flag. Whereas the ones with custom flags may have there be some way to make the flags appear in the 'profile' area of the forums so one at least doesn't have to return to 'in game' area to view the flag.
