Custom flag idea

Im was trying to put up a custom flag, but i couldnt see it because my ISP uses transparant caches to speed up the viewing of FRPs, and since my old customflag is one of those pages(i feel special :P) the cache happens to show my old flag.

So what i suggest is that:

1) each custom flag is given a different number, Like for me it would Petsburg1, Petsburg2 Et Cetera.

2) When you are uploading a flag, and it detecs you are behind some kind of proxy, it warns that it may show your old flag.

What do you think?

Well, since most of us know that the server itself sometimes delays the display of new flags, it's just a waiting game for us.

The delay is never on our end. It's always a caching or a proxy problem.

NS is the only site that doesn't load the changes to an image for me... could that still be a proxy or caching problem?

Our code replaces the image immediately IIRC.

It always has for me.

One thing you might try, although it most likely won't work, is to switch back to a default flag for a second, look at your page, and re-upload the custom flag. Other then that, just wait a few days for the cached version to time out. Anyone else who looks at your page will still see the new flag (if its any consolation).

Also, why isn't that random 5-digit number thing that gets around caching problems (like this) used on the with the flag URLs as well? (just wondering)

I have never had a problem with a flag not showing up, all you have to do is right click and reload image after you upload it.

The 5-digit number thing doesn't change unless you change your login session, so it wouldn't be affected by re-uploading a different flag in the same session. At least, that's what my common sense tells me.

And same here, loop, I have to refresh the page to see the different one, but it generall works.

i had my custom flag for months, while i think you only have your flag for a much shorter period of time(i think)

because i had that flag for such a long period of time, its still on my ISPs proxy server, even though i no longer use it

My Isp Doesnt even recognise the 5 digit number, which isanother reason why i always get my old custom flag

The amount of time you had the flag would have little to do with it (although the cache probably does have some sort of priority attached to the files ...)

Still faster then waiting a few days for a proxy's cache to time out, though...

They aren't in the flags URL, so it knows its the same file. They only fix caching issues for the actual pages, but the flag is the only place you can really notice the caching of images.

just push the refresh button if your new flag doesn't show up immediatly
works fine with me.

Yes, refresh seems to work for me. Just open the flag in a new window and hit refresh.

refresh(or reload in my case) wont work because my isp uses the old flag from their transparant cache, as i said in my first post
