If you did a lot of posting in General, then the threads may have been deleated, resulting int he dropping of your post count.

They deleted forum 7, now they are going through general purging it.

If you have many more posts in there, you may lose more

Yes, the mods recently enacted a huge purge of topics throughout the forums. So, most of us suffered post count drops.

Those of us non-generalites and former forum 7 goers, suffer from massive post count slumps ;)

Yeah, whenever posts are deleted from the database (either Mod-deleted or mass-purged by [violet] postcounts are reduced.

I never pay much attention to my own postcount. I think it's somewhere around 3,300 to 3,600. I only see the number when I happen to glance to the left when rereading one of my own posts. I could probably lose 1,000 off my post count and not notice. :)

I had an idea that (I don't know if it will work) if it works will enable to delete thousands of threads without people moaning.

Would you not be able to set whatever their post count is and leave it set as that, so that it is not affected by posts being deleted?

Or am I talking complete crap?

This is incorrect. I believe that when [violet] purges the forums, the post-counts are left untouched.

Tech Modling / Game AdminWell my postcount has dropped a good 4000 in total (although it was never higher than 12,000), so if they're supposed to be untouched, then something is going wrong.

When Mods kill threads, post counts drop. In theory, the purges don't.

Occationally we kill old General threads (usually ones that are 5 months old). Certainly could lose posts then.

Actually, it can (and has) been done before, but it's an Adminy-type thing.

(why don't I just bump every thread I've ever posted on? )

Well, if admin put into use they would be able to delete so much and free up so much server space whilst everybodies post count remained unchanged!

Usually 20 threads at a pop.It seems like overnight I lost 2000 posts though. I can't think that there are 20 threads I posted on 100 times, even back in the day, and even if there were, for them all to get deleted in one sweep would be a remarkable coincidence.

Well, as you may or may not know I lost more. What with me posting after the purges then that being deleted I lost close to 3,000 posts.

Was this recently? If so, that was probably when Scolo and I did a slightly larger manual purge of General, that resulted in something like 2000 threads biting it.

When I used phpBB I found that normally you could chose wether or not to decrease the users post count when you deleted the posts, in the ACP.
