Will the address change when we switch to Jolt?

I've searched through the first 2 pages of the Tech forum and couldn't find any other thread on this topic, so I think it'd be worth it to post.

Will the address still be www.nationstates.net or will it change when we switch to Jolt? (www.jolt.com/????????)

It had better not; I'm already ticked about the forums being integrated with Jolt's, thereby no doubt changing the forum URLs to Jolt forum URLs.

And if it does change, it's most likely IMHO to be along the lines of http://www.nationstates.jolt.co.uk, based on what I see from Jolt's site. However, I'm a big fan of http://www.nationstates.net myself.

Good question.

EDIT: I just checked Jolt's website, and it seems that their forums (http://forums.jolt.co.uk) are down until 5 AM. I'm getting less and less confident about this move....

I do not believe that it will change.

I can't be sure, but I think that's because they just upgraded their forum software. You probably tried to access their forums during the upgrade.

So is there any latest date for this switch now?
I was watching my clock last April; now I'm back to watching the calendar...

Being that the server switch now has a set date, and that date is steadily approaching, I'd just like to re-ask this question. I know I shouldn't (since this is both gravedigging and asking an already answered question) but I just want to be sure.

Also, if the game adress is the same (still www.nationstates.net) will the adress for the forums change?

The forum links will be messed up I think, which I assume means that any posts with links to topics now, the links won't work anymore.
*Wonders about the threads like sticky lists, and guides that are basically made of the topic links*

Yeah, the topic links will be different.

As for the game:

[10:41:33] * Goobergunch wonder if the in-game links will all still work.
[10:41:36] <Goobergunch> *wonders
[10:42:26] <Sirocco> What do you mean by in-game links?
[10:43:25] <Goobergunch> http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=display_region/region=Democratic_Underground <--- like that
[10:43:44] <Sirocco> The forum links will all be different I believe but the game links (www.nationstates.net/), will all probably remain the same.
[10:43:54] <Goobergunch> `K, thanks.

My understanding is that the URL for the main site will remain the same (http://www.nationstates.net/) however we will be using a raw IP address for a bit on our side because it can take up to a few days for the some of the changes we're making to spread across the internet (the DNS entry for those techies out there).

Don't worry about it though, NS won't just be disappearing.

Do you know what the IP address for NS will be while waiting for DNS propagation? Will it still be 216.93.162.218 or will it change to a Jolt-ish IP (195.149.21.*)?

ON EDIT: I tried doing an address lookup on nationstates.jolt.co.uk and it resolved to 195.149.21.9 - is that going to be the new IP?

I don't think the URL of nationstates would need to change. A website's URL does not depend on where it is hosted unless I'm mistaken.

Didn't Max reserve www.nationstates2.net?

if you look at the date, you will notice that he posted that in may. before the current set date of the jolt move.

unless the internet has changed dramatically, i am pretty sure that it will be the same url. a change of servers does not necessarily mean a change of domains. it just means the domain is hosted by somebody else.
HORRIBLE ANALOGY:you are current nationstates server
your pet is the domain
new owner is jolt server
just cause you give your pet away doesn't mean the new owner will change the name of your pet.

We're talking about the NS1 move to Jolt.

I know that... what I was pointing out is that a domain name can be used anywhere where it's hosted.

Case in point, I registered www.skytowerpoet.net, and I'm hosted elsewhere.

It's easily transferrable.
