How come some nations have animated flags? Is that like the pre name thing, Only after a certain populations?

No. It appears that although custom flags are limited to JPEG files, people are still able to upload gif images, which can be animated. Additionally there flags can have far larger dimensions than 107 x 71. Anyone can do this, and I have often wondered why it has been overlooked for all this time

The size in pixels doesn't really matter, it's the file size (about 6KB max) that the flags are judged on.

Aparently No one has read Infinite Loops Flag Faq.

He originally made a animated flag for me but I foudn this image and got him to modify it to fit.

Loop is to flags
what Col Sanders is to Fried Chicken.

Of the limits listed on the Flag Upload page, the size limit (not the resolution limit, mind you, the 6k one) is the only one the game actually checks.

Heck, you could upload anything you want as long as it's under 6k*. Of course, only certain files will be properly interpreted by a browser as an image.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the game only recognizes .jpg and .gif

As the server sends all the flags with the HTTP header 'Content-Type: image/jpeg', any browser displaying the animated flags is behaving improperly...

I have uploaded PNG's before.

and as for anything, lets jsut put it this way, [violet] has only approved up to 300x200 (my standard size)
Sure I have made a flag 1024x768 that fits, and looked well you could tell what was on it, but you are jsut asking for a deletion by posting somehting that large, considering it is just there to screw up the look of the page.

PNGs oughtta be encouraged, since they are (1) W3C standard, (2) lossless, and (3) indexable, meaning a file size a helluva lot lower than an comparable JPEG (and smaller than a GIF, too, since they don't require 255 colours in their pallate). And it is the 21st Century, so anyone not using lynx whose browser can't display them properly needs to get with the program.

also PNG's are as I understand Public domain, Compuserve (AOL) Owns gifs, literaly,

the only good thing about gifs is you can animate them

I actually have a puppet with a huge flag like that ... (it's one someone else gave to me, and I leave all the settings except the pretitle the same when I take over someone elses puppet). I don't think it's against the rules, but it sure is annoying.

The game doesn't have any blocks in place except the file size. Like Safalra said, though, the game informs the players browser that it's getting an image, so if you uploaded a text file, for example, it would show up as a broken image (so it's no use trying to give yourself a really long title this way, anyone who thought of trying :P).

Not that you'd need the help... anyone remember that horrifically long pretitle The SLAGLands had last December, that quoted large portions of "The Major General's Song"? I thought I had saved it somewhere, but it seems I didn't...

I have a screenshot on my home computer (posting from school). It was ... hugenormogigantic! (enough so that real words cannot convey it's size)

Actually Naleth, huge flags are against the rules, I have seen Hack and others warn and delete nations for it.
I seem to recall hack mentioning in another thread how he bombed a naiton recently for jsut that.

If one of the mods confirms this, I'll shrink the puppets flag right away...

Depends on how "huge". TG me the name, and I'll let you know.
