National Titles

28-04-2004, 23:49
I might be the only one who thinks this but, i wish that the titles you give your nation had some impact on the state of sed nation (ie-Dictatorship and/or the United Socialist States would drop your political freedoms) instead of being solely a nice little addition to your Nation's name.

My nation is "the Free Republic of Bruteland," but the UN says I'm a dictatorship!

You can call your nation whatever you like, but it doesn't make it true. The UN categorizes nations based on their laws, not their names. Changing your name from "Dictatorship" to "Republic" (or anything else) has cosmetic value only.

I'll also note that Saddam Hussein was the ruler of the "Republic of Iraq".

Starting topics don't count as a post, no.

And I don't think this is a good idea, if for nothing else then the humor aspect of it. It cracks me up every time I see some psychotic dictatorship labeled as a "Free Republic”.

Not to mention the problems there would be parsing custom titles....

The Etaoin Shrdlu of Fillintheblankistan is a rather orange, slightly necrotic nation, renowned for its methane-based atmosphere. Its compassionate population of 666 million hyperintelligent extraterrestrial squirrels are ruled by a large, but benevolent, block of well-aged cheese.

It happens in real life. Consider the "Democratic Republic of Congo."

So, no, this change won't be made.

Thats because Iraq was technically a Democracy, but you could only vote for Bathist Party (sp, grm) candidates.
