Suggestion to make inter-regional communication easier...

Greetings:

Currently it is difficult to communicate important information on policies passing through the UN to a sizable (or even significant) number of people who vote on proposals. This effectively results from forum participation being optional.

Currently the list of regions is almost as unmanageably huge (for players) to crawl through as a list of all players would be. Any change that would create an incentive for players to concentrate somewhat larger groups within each region would not detract from the game, and can only help

I suggest a somewhat quick and dirty fix.

Create a (or raise the) minimum number of people required required to endorse a member before s/he is able to become a regional delegate.

eg. Member endorsements must be greater than 15 to be eligble to become a delegate.

Ideally, the goal of this would be to concentrate more nations in fewer regions without getting rid of option of creating your own region.

Also, are regions automatically deleted when all members vacate them? If not, this would make it easier to browse.

I apologize if this is covered elsewhere, I did make an effort to search the forums, but navigation is very slow on my end so I could've missed it.

My UN nation is a delegate on 2 endorsements. I regularly go through the proposal list (and make fun of the really bad ones with the rest of the people on the IRC channel, but never mind) and generally approve any proposal I am asked to (if it isn't total trash). Feel free to send this nation a telegram if you've got a proposal you want endorsed.

In short, no I don't think this is a good idea. Players are either motivated to participate in the UN or they aren't, making a rule like this that would change game dynamics so drastically isn't worth the slightly higher level of delegate participation you might get from it.

I don't think the effect of this proposal would increase participation, it would merely reduce the number of delegates. To prevent an overly huge queue of proposals going to the UN floor, the percentage needed would have to be increased. The end result is that some of the active delegates without sufficient endorsements would be denied participation in the UN. The gain? Perhaps the list of delegates being smaller makes it easier to TM all delegates to ask for support.

I support a similar idea:
If a region doesn't have a delegate it does not show up on the regions list,
same for regions with < 10 nations.

The regions can still be selected manually, and have sway on elections - just clears up clutter.

You're wanting a list of delegates?

The NationStates Regional directory (Gameplay forum) lists all regions over 40 nations as of the date it was updated and has vague regional affiliations (left leaning, capitalist, facist etc) AND says which regions are active in the UN and even has links to each of the regions in question.

What more could you want?

35 actually - which reminds me, I have to update it.
