Suggestion to help ease recent spamming incidents

Hi

A moderator suggested I post a couple of ideas here.

There have been at least 3 incidents in the last week or so of nations hopping from region to region spreading worthless spam to regional HQ Boards and it got me thinking that at the moment there doesn't appear to be anything to either prevent it or for regional founders to clear up the mess afterwards.

So I thought of 3 things that *might* help:

1) there is a time delay that prevents the same person posting on an HQ Board consecutively, albeit a few seconds (which I never really thought would deter the determined spammer anyway) so I thought maybe a time delay between being able to jump from one region to another......hear me out ;)

How many regions can someone hit in an hour if they write some spam, copy it and then paste it into region after region? Depending on how fast their finger speed and net connection are, I imagine quite a few. What if the game didn't allow you to jump to more than one region on an hour, or two, or a day, or whatever? It would be at least one region spammed per hour! Then the spammer would be stuck in the region they just spammed, at least giving time for a founder or UN Delegate to notice it and eject the offender (as my understanding of the rules allows me to do)!

2) Once a spammer has quit a region, there is nothing a founder can do to prevent that person coming back into the region (as was the case with Star Trek Deep Space 9 nation this week - Sweden was spammed then the spammer fled, leaving me with a long piece of spam and a nation I couldn't eject and ban). I'd like founders to have the power to retrospectively ban someone who has broken the rules in their region. That will stop that particular nation coming back - and would have allowed me to prevent Deep Space 9 form hitting my region AGAIN! (I was lucky enough to be online when they did it this time).

3) If a spammer hits the regional board, the only people who can delete the message are mods - let's face it, they have their hands full! Any chance of Founders having the power to delete messages? I doubt we'd get that power to delete *any* message - but what about the power to delete messages left by a nation who has been ejected from the region, or has been retrospectively added to the ban list? That way I could "cleanup" my regional board following a spam attack

Thoughts, people?

Those are decent ideas, but a region moving to cap could become annoying if you are just moving around...

I agree. There are many nations that jump around in order to determine where to live, the majority of them are harmless and don't spam.

Right, I think all are great ideas but the region cap idea.

If there could be an option where a founder (And maybe UN delegate) could type in the name of nations, and ban them that way, it would take care of many problems.

Say for example Litenburg is spamming up a region's happenings of my region. When I return, I see that Litenburg is no longer in my region. So I go into the control center into the ban list and type in 'Litenburg'. Litenburg is now banned from my region.

Or maybe there could be a system that auto kicks and bans you if you join/rejoin more then how ever many times in a set amount of time. Like if Litenburg moved in and out of a region 4 times within 5 minutes, it would auto kick and ban him.

Sound ok? :D

Thanks people!

This region cap idea is not aimed at limiting the number of regions someone goes to - just the time delay between region hopping.

Yes there are genuoine region hoppers out there - one of my puppets does it. But think for a second....

I wouldn't object to the one hour time delay if it were possible. Delays between updates however I agree yeah could be irritating.

I am slightly surprised this idea was the least popular ;) Just goes to show!

Anyway - I hope the mods can come up with a solution to help Founders keep their Board clean.......I get sick of hearing "Yeah, but invasions/spam/etc are just part of the game!" In that case, so is a desire to have a region free of morons determined to spoil the fun for the majority.

All have these have been suggested at some point.
1 and 3 I know were rejected by the modling, 2 kind of just fell to the bottom of the forum, so that one might go on Sal's 'things to do on a rainy day' list.

Perhaps this is just a reworking of the first (rejected) idea, but what if, once you join a region, a time limit is imposed (say half an hour?) on when you can first post to the message board. Then nations can region hop as much as they want, they just can't spam (unless they want to do it very, very slowly...).

This would harm those who move regions just to post a quick (non-spam) message.

Aaah. True.

(but that's what puppets are for, isn't it? Why else would people need hundreds of them?. LOL.)

I thought there wasw a feature that meant that someone couldnt post more than 1 message a minute in regional boards...
