Ok, you guys have the right idea with the T-Shirts where you can get what category your nation is in...but what about something cooler? Like you can have the name of your nation, it's UN catagory, the flag, and a description of your nation on it.

Now that would be a shirt people would want. :D

Also, could we get stuff like mouse pads, coffee cups, and other such stuff? We could have a 'Design the best NationStates design for a mouse pad, coffee cup, and whatever else we have...and your idea will be used' contest. How cool would that be if the NS players could have a shot at having their design used. :)

Just some things to consider. Which is what I hope you'll do. :)

Um.. except said shirts would be way to custom, making them more expensive, then sales would go down.

Good point. It's not that we'd be taking away the other T-Shirt, just adding a new one. And it couldn't be more expensive then $15-$20...

Bug reports, general help, ideas for improvements, and questions about how things are meant to work.

Cafe Press do all sorts of stuff. However, putting your nations flag etc. on a t-shirt would mean Max would have to mess around getting things designed and submitting them to Cafe Press.

I'd imagine he'd rather go without the $5 or whatever he gets per t-shirt.

How about T-shirts with the slogan "The Flightless Hippo is a one-night stand!" printed on it? I'm sure it would be very popular. :P

I support Bas's idea, but the description of one's nation changes nearly daily, so I doubt it would be feasible.

And Goober, I still like my idea of just the Name and flag, although I suppose that wearing "Left-Leaning College State" in Amherst wouldn't be a bad thing.

I've been thinking about getting the LLCS shirt ... although I think that at least they could put a logo on it. I'd suggest the JG cover art, but it doesn't have much to do with NS outside of it's reason for existance (I like it better then the NS logo, though).

I'm probably going to get the Anarchy shirt if I can scrape up the money; it's my second favorite category and I'd rather have people think I am an anarchist than an evil compulsory consumerist (favorite category). I like the NS logo better and would love to have it on there to make it colorful. As it is, really the only reason I'm buying it is to 1) support the site and 2) hopefully meet random RL people who play NS. I don't know a soul from NS in RL but would love to.

I won't but anythng else out of guilt. He'll have to use marketing: add some color(either both logos, my flag, or a flighless hippo). And he'll have to make sweatshirt versions of all of them. I have to many T-Shirts already.
For somebody who wrote a book on traditional marketing, he's certainly highly unorthodox, using addition and guilt. :twisted: :P

Another cool idea would be the JG picture (Or the NS one...but I think we all like the JG one better :wink: ), and the words "NationStates", or "NationStates Player", or even "NationStates Addict" would be pretty neat. :lol:

Because Unfree, my main nation, is quite capitalistically evil - but that's purly IC and I'm not overly capitalist OOC.

Yeah, but then they'd have to customize every one and it would very likely be very expensive.

It would be cool if it had all the RL nation flags you can choose on the back, you know very small and in rows, and said "Nationstates.net" or something at the top of the back above the flags, then on the front it could have the UN classification like it does, plus maybe one of the logos or both.

My brother gave me JG for my birthday, which I liked, but I don't get a chance to go to the bookstore often and don't know when I'll be getting Syrup. 1) Get a plain white t-shirt (or any color for customizeable parts!)
2) Get a sharpie, preferably black.
3) Scribble "TROUSRS PWNZ" on the front of the shirt and "I <3 TROUSRS!" on the back

I like the shirts we have, and will buy one soon. On top of that I think there is a real un-played Marketing strategy that Max should consider.

It is foolish to imagine an official shirt with your nation name/flag. However, there are topical threads/trends that are large enough that Max could consider going after. For example, Squi V Llama shirts, Defender Shirts, and Godmobbing shirts. I think it is possible to have a more specific target, without the minute impossibility of doing individual nation shirts.

I would suggest perhaps, region shirts, (min say 25 or so orders)
or big alliances (same min orders required)

First, I haven't seen any suggestion that any proceeds go to support the site. I didn't notice who did it, but I thought it was just a player who put the words on the shirts. I think if it was actually officially sanctioned, we'd se it in the News entries.

Second, if that's right, then logos are out because that would be copyright infringement. It's already a bit grey with words like "capitlizt".

Well, I kno that I hadn't heard some of the UN categories before I came to NS, but I don't think he could use copyright law to stop people from printing shirts with "Anarchy" printed on them, for example ...

Now...if he put a logo on them ... *winkwinknudgenudge* :wink:

Problem for me with the shirts is... its kinda geeky.

Now I don't actually have a problem with being seen to be geeky, but making a statement on a shirt that people are just gonna roll their eyes at... meh.


If I were going to have one though, I might choose Innofensive Centrist Democracy, cos the title is cool even though I hate that nation type for being average and too common. Or New York Times Democracy.

Perhaps you guys could hook up with a designer (like Evisu or Walé Adeyemi) and get them to produce and manufacture the T-shirts for you....that would be wicked (and a nice little money earner as well considering the average Evisu T-shirt sells for £90 and the average Walé T-shirt goes for £50)! :P

Plus, I would then buy one.
