"No Post Mode Specified"?

Recently, when I've been posting on the forums, I'll type in my message, and click submit. It sends me to a page, however, that says "No Post Mode Specified" Instead of the usual "You post was made successfully" or something like that. This especially happens when I take longer to make posts. What is going wrong here? What can I do to stop it?

I get it sometimes, especially after the page fails to load correctly the first time. More often then not, your post will be recorded, you just won't see a success message. If you want to check, you can go back into the forum and look to see if you made the last post.

The "No post mode specified" message is given by all phBB boards when you take too long to compose a message, or alternatively, if the forum's server resets in the mean time. Here's what I do. With the exception of short posts like this one, I compose my messages in a text program - such as Microsoft {hiss boo, yeah, but it's what people have} Word or Notepad. Then I cut and paste them into my responses. Not only does this make it easier to avoid errors like this one, it also helps me to archive them, and I get them spell checked.

Hope that helps.

Or for those who are to lazy to open MS Word or notepad .. ([win][r]"notepad"/"winword"[enter] .. is it that hard? :P) if the page is taking a long time to load, you should probably copy the text to the clipboard ([ctrl-a][ctrl-c]) just in case it gets lost. DONT keep hitting submit, though.

Judicious usage of taskbar icons is your friend. 8)

Indeed. Should you get an error message of any kind, it's best to return to viewing the thread and hit Ctrl&R or F5 {until the forum comes back up :? :( }, to see if it has been entered.

Or just use Mozilla, which lets you use the page back function and doesn't clear out the text box :P

Well, some people use NS from computers they don't own and so on. Personally I find it worth archiving all IC posts more than three lines long anyway.

IE rarely does this to me, especially when I use the [<- Backspace] key instead of your conventional back button (although the times it does, it makes me angry ).
