Why is it that the forum has problems working normally when there are say 50 people (as it just has done) and yet when there is double that number the forum works fine. Why is this? It's very strange indeed!

That is quite curious indeed! It's the server gremlins! :P
This is an easy question, you see, when not too many people are on the forum, the server becomes bored and falls asleep, thuse slowing down things. :o
