The above date keeps showing up on the NationStates Forum Index as the date and time of the last post. What does this mean?

It happens sometimes when the server is busy.
It will go away the next time someone posts in that board.

It means the time was set to 0 on accident. Time is measured by the number of milliseconds from that date (I think, or is it January 1st 1970?) by the server.

I heard once that this has something to do with Linux or Unix or something of that description, but I could well be wrong.

This could very well be the single least informative post ever by a moderator. It's totally semantically null. :P

I meant to say something about Unix in there. I know Unix was released 1/1/70, I just don't know if it measures the date from there or from 12/31/69. And I remember something about the server running Linux.

Almost, but not quite.

Unix time is the number of seconds that have elapsed since Midnight, Jan 1, 1970. Not the number of milliseconds.

The reason the forums read Dec 31 1969, 8PM as a time is because the forum then subtracts four hours as a timezone conversion (I think).

Both Enodia and Cog are correct in part. The cause is a nation being deleted who performed the last post (They may need the post purged as well, I'm not sure).

Would it surprise anyone to know that I'm an ex-law student from a family of lawyers and judges?
