No post mode specified?

Sometimes when I post something, I get a message that says "No post mode specified."
I'm used to the "cannot find server" and getting an "invalid session" every once in awhile, but what does this new message mean? I hit reply, type my post, and hit submit just like I do every time. But lately I've been getting "no post mode specified" messages.

:!: :!: :!: :!:
I got it when I was posting this message too!!! AARGHHHH!
I'd bet it's just some new trick the server gremlins are trying to play on us :P
I got it a while ago and I accidentally made a tripple post with it (so it does go through, at least some times, when it says that).

It's done it to me before. Who knows what it means, although I'm sure Sal will come up with a technical explanation for it.

It happens often. No worries. Just remember to copy long posts before sending them and you should be fine.

I keep on getting this a lot!
Hopefully Sal will be able to give us an explanation as to what it is and why we keep on getting it.

"No Post Mode Specified" is different than IE's page not loading or not found.
No Post Mode usually happens when you spend so long composing a post that you time-out from the forums. In other words, you auto logged off while typing. It's easy enough to avoid, simply copy the text before you post, or hit the "Preview" button every now and then, which refreshes your cookie.
The other errors seem to be rather unique to IE and involve the forums lagging (and also tend to cause doubleposts), this is because IE feels the end to load up a whole new page (often killing your post) just to tell you it can't connect, as opposed to a dialogue box, like Mozilla and Netscathe use.

Whenever I get 'no post mode specified' it never double posts.

Right, because you've logged out by the time that appears, so you can't single post, let alone double post.

I thought that was what the Invalid_Session message was?

What he's saying is that when you see "No post mode specified," it's saying it because you can't post, as The Most Glorious Hack explained, you've timed out and are no longer logged in. This means that you cant post what you're posting at all, which is why you don't get double posts.

I think that is what you get when you send invalid post data to the serve. Basically, that means the server can't understand what you're trying to say to it.
It could be happening becuase the server only gets part of your message, or it could be a general purpose error message (I know I've gotten it when I sent invalid postdata while trying to make my signature script thing work*).
And TMGH: I know I've posted when I got "No Post Mode Specified" before, and sometimes it happens right after a previous action (loading the reply page, for example ... and not nearly after enough time to have timed out). *maintains that it's a new trick the server gremlins are playing*
*I am aware of the ban on scripts that access the forum, but Sal OK'd this one, since it doesn't access the server any more then the user would otherwise. It's triggered by hitting the "submit" button, after all. Please don't DEAT me ... *cringes*
