The server and forums have been slower and slower recently. I am making this poll/petition to address the issue. Maybe if enough people sign it than we can get a new server :)

Note: If there has been something like this before, I have not seen it.

according too the conversation with MB the other week, they are putting nationstates on a new server, check teh general forum 'an evening with max barry' thread for the details.

[19:15] <MaxBarry> We've come to an agreement whereby they'll code up and manage NationStates 2, based on my plan for it
[19:15] <MaxBarry> And they'll also take on hosting of NationStates 1
[19:15] <MaxBarry> I.e. this game :)
[19:15] <MaxBarry> This means that while NationStates will remain essentially the same, it will have professional level hosting

Ofcourse... if a lot of people vote, they apparently DID manage to get on the forums... ;)

I have looked into this a little, and found that one way to slow forums down is to link to pictures hosted on third party web sites. Perhaps that could be the problem?

The problem is- The server was not made to support what it currently is. The single server has to support both the nations, regions, and all that part of the game as well as the forums, and the countless topics and posts on it. So that's quite a large load put on the server.

As it's already been said, Mr. Barry is going to get the forums hosted by Jolt, a professional forum and site hosting company. So forum/game performance will improve, just in the near future.
