Your population will gradually rise as you do your issues and so forth.
Yeah, I don't think issues even affect it, I think its just daily increase

Correct.
Nothing but time effects your population.

Correct.
Nothing but time effects your population.
But Bas, don't some issues affect your rate of pop increase (e.g. the immigrant ones)?
Anyway, I've noticed quite a few threads with questions about the pop growth freaking, so something may be up. Salsusa says no, but still...

It's an urban myth that some issues give you a faster rate of population growth. I've heard it applied to the immigrant/refugee ones as well as the one to do with allowing cloning.
Equally, no issues slow down your population growth - even if you allow euthanasia or the death penalty.

Ahh, thanks Enodia. Now, of course, I have a question: Why not? I mean I can see why the death penalty or cloning wouldn't, but I would think that immigrants would. Of course, I'm not the one who would have to code that.

*grins with the evil smile of someone who will never have to type out tons of code for nations screaming, 'Make NSII perfect!!*
God, I wish that was a smily...I'd've used it several times.
my son-
Ha, that's an assumption.

ah, i have seen nations made on the same day as mine, but with a couple of mil. over my pop. however, they had picked several different starting options than i did, to shape the ideals of their nation. they started out with 7 million or 8 million or their population growth just fluctuated a bit.
wierd...

Could you provide some links? :? When nations are born, they all start out with 5 million people. No matter what. The nation could be a few days old and be 8 million people...

issues determine growth
that's why when someone had the population bug...it was really an "extra issue" bug.
If you have your's set for one a day...and your friend has his set for 2 a day, and you're founded on the same day...after a few months you'll notice a distinct difference in population. Like...I have puppets who were founded on the same day that I was, but in the beginning I had them on 1 as opposed to my 2 and they are somewhat smaller.

Sal said nothing, not even issues or how often then come, effect growth. :?

Nothing, not even issues effect growth. The extra issues from the pop bug did not cause the extra growth, they were another effect of the bug.

The population bug INCLUDED an 'extra issue' bug. All that means is, a pop bugged nation got updated twice.
During an update, you get an issue, and you get a population boost. It doesn't matter if you dismiss the issue or what you choose, you population increases by ~6 million. Pop bugged nations got extra pop and extra issues, but the point is, the issues themselves make no difference to your population.
Edit: Sal's too fast for me. What he said ;)
