I hit the "apply to the UN" button by mistake; I don't want to join. Is there a way to cancel this?

Don't respond to the confirmation email.
I haven't received a confirmation e-mail; is that something that comes when they decide to admit me?

The UN sends oput a confirmation email to verify your email address. If you get yours, don't respond to it. If you don't get it, nothing will happen anyway since you haven't responded.
If you responded by accident and got yourself admitted, you can simply resign again. Even if you already have a UN nation, having a second for long enough to click the link is unlikely to result in you being spotted as a multi.
Gee, I hope that answers all of your questions in advance. This incredibly annoying server lag caused me a 4 hour delay in answering. It's not worth it / possible to browse the forums during the US day.
