Regional message boards

17-01-2004, 21:42
I was wondering about a couple of things. I was thinking first that it would be nice if there was an ignore option so that people in the larger regions could talk in the regional board without worrying about their messages disappearing out of the 10 message slots. Then I was thinking that it would take more server space to do that, so that wouldn't be perfect, but the only other solution to the problem would also require more server space, and that is expanding the number of messages that are kept for each region. It could be done either to a static number or to something based on the number of nations in the region, or based on the number of recent posts. For instance it could be equal to half the number of nations but no less than 10, or it could be equal to half the number of posts in the last 24 hours. I think the former would work better, but the latter would require less server space. Either way, I'm just throwing this out here because I'd like to see something get done about it. Any comments or ideas are welcome of course.

Thank you.

I agree, that posts sometimes disapear to fast. But with the server as it is...
And the fact that think of The South Pacific, youd have thousands of posts, if you did the half of the nations in a region idea.

Besides, It is not all bad, if it is important and you want only certain people to read it, just TM them.

I hate it when people complain about this server. I think it's good considering the amount of messages and information it contains.

Certainly it is good considering it's a free service. You'll note, however, that no one is complaining about the quality of the server. My only complaint right now is an obnoxious person in my region and the fact that I cannot get messages out to other people in my region because of him.

If he's spamming, report it to the mods via the Getting Help Page.

I know it doesn't appear it from this nation, but I'm a senior member of this forum and know how to get help when people are breaking the rules. Currently there is no spamming going on, and I am making no call for moderation as such. However, I believe that there is a problem here and that it is resolvable. I posted this with that in mind.

OK, I wasn't insulting you or calling you a n00b. You said he he was disrupting and pushing all the other messages off. I said, instead of proposing a change to game mechanics, use the system we already have.

Sorry, but no *big* changes are going to made until the server stabilizes. Which should be anytime soon... :P

Sorry if I was being snappy, I'm a little annoyed right now.

I posted a message that was too long to put in a single post so I broke it up into three. I'm fairly certain that some of the people I was intending on reaching haven't seen it, but it's entirely gone from the regional board now. I'm also fairly certain that one of the people I was intending on reaching saw it but it was truncated at the time. This problem is actually more difficult to solve I think because eliminating the limit on post length is just asking for spam server death.

I've always thought a system of rewards could work well, although it'd take more time to administer. People could earn larger mailboxes or regional boards or max post lengths by seniority and by helping the moderators and other stuff like that. Dunno, just an idea.
