New Idea: an "Undecided" Option for Issues!

It seemed that my idea of "Ignore List" for Telegrams went over well.

Now, I have a second idea:

When choosing an issue, I believe there should be an "undecided" option, which would revert our issue to the same state as when we first recieved it.

Currently, if I select (lets say) option 1, I will have to stick with that option until it is passed, or choose options 2, 3, etc. or dismiss. Right? Yeah, everyone knows this.

However, there is no way that I can "unclick" an option, so that I can review it later (lets say even a day later).

Overall, I believe we should have an "Undecided" Option in the event that, when clicking on an option that we later find out we don't want, we can choose to further think about it. You know? it is just like we never made an choice on the issue in the first place, like when we first recieve it.

Whoa, I hope that made sense.

Superb idea. I've got nothing to add.

I don't like it. Every leader has to deal with their decisions having undesirable consequences.
Tony Blair can't suddenly say 'Oops, perhaps war wasn't such a good idea,' click an 'undo' button and have everything go back to how it was.

No, this would be a new option on the Issue page, maybe something like this:

Goobergunchia Decides:
The Great Wall of Goobergunchia?

The Issue
Due to the ongoing wars in neighboring countries, a recent rash of illegal immigrants have been caught at the borders of Goobergunchia, prompting many citizens to call for tighter immigration laws.

The Debate
Elizabeth Washington of the Goobergunchia National Purity League says "These illegal aliens are just an eyesore with their strange customs and funny languages. Uneducated immigrants like these only worsen crime and steal valuable jobs! I say we should boot them all out on their ears and put a big fence around the country!"
[Accept]

Dave Thiesen of the Goobergunchia Civil Liberties Union says "We must welcome these refugees from any nation into our open arms, they are fleeing one oppressive dictatorial regime in the only way they know, we must not let them think they're jumping from the frying pan into the fire!"

This is the position your government is preparing to adopt. [Withdraw Position]

"Hold on there, hold on people!" says Pete Dredd of the Goobergunchia Broadcasting company, "We don't have to take either extreme, all we have to do is make a TV game show out of it! We put deadly obstacles on the border and monitor it with television cameras! Those that make it across win freedom and citizenship, and those who don't, well, lets just say that our buzzards won't starve. We could call it 'Who Wants to be an Immigrant?'!"
[Accept]

The Government Position
The government has indicated its intention to follow the recommendations of Option 2.

If you wish, you may simply dismiss this issue.

Aaah, right I see. You mean so you can de-select a position.

In that case, I'm for it.

I like the idea ...

*was expecting to see someone who had missed the "Dismiss" button :P*

YOu don't need it though. If you change your mind before it becomes final you can change your decission. I have done it before or do I not understand this :?

But you have to do it before server update. This would give you an indefinite period of time to do so.

Definately sounds like a good idea, and useful too.

A somewhat on topic question and comment:

If you dismiss an issue, does it have any effect?

If not, I think issues (or at least future ones) should have an effect when dismissed.

Kinda ties in with the "undecided" option being discussed.

If you make a choice, and decide to undo that choice and decide later, there's no way to do that. With this, there would be a way.

A good idea.

As Max Barry pointed out, when politicians IRL chose to dismiss an issue, it very rarely has an effect.

It would be making an incredibly rare anomality the norm.

NS exaggerates things to be sure, but this would be exaggerating a virtual nonexistance.

Doesn't have an effect? too many dismisses and they're overthrown!!! I still say dismiss should have a (negative) effect, otherwise it's an easy cop-out answer. If you don't agree with an option, choose the lesser evil. It's as simple as that. Choose the one you're less uncomfortable with, but CHOOSE ONE! Dismiss should affect your nation negatively, or else disappear as an option.
