Can we reset the "dead" nations Names? There not in use and some vary good names are going to waste because of it.

Sorry, but no. This would be unfair to the people who rejoin the game and have their dead nations revived, only to find that the nation is already in use by someone else. Plus, what if people restarted as a once famous nation and messed up the reputation? I know I wouldn’t want “The Basenji” to be used again when I die.

maybe they could give the names free from all nations that have been dead for a year or more...
today 550.000 nations allready. if this goes on new players have to choose something like 'the rogue nation of qfdsdiozbnf'. would be ridiculous.

You'd be surprised. I did a check up on Indian regional names for one of my puppets (eg. Kerala, Punjab, Kashmir etc), out of about 30 only 2 had been taken up as nation names. And that's a big, well-known country. When you factor in all the other countries, plus all the ready-made world/nation/region names from fiction, plus anything people can make up, there's still a lot of scope.

I have to agree the names are already starting to get a little, um... odd? Heck i took me 23 minits to think up the name I've got this might soon turn into AIM with names like... 164moonfart779, I don't know about you but I think that would sap a littl bit of the fun out of NS. moonfart more or less with the number of not isnt vary diplomaticly intimidateing. I say we go with the time buffer for dead nations.

you say those indian provinces, ok, but try with belgian or dutch provinces or major cities. you'll find a lot of them will be taken allready.
lots of belgians en dutch people have played and are playing this game.
then you've got the historical persons. i doubt if there is still any US president available, or any well-known dictators or other wellknown people. unless you write them in a very weird way.

notice also the growing number of nations who use an underscore before or after their name because the name they wanted to take has been used.
no problem with doing that with nations who died a long time ago, but i wouldn't like a nation callec mummerke_ while i'm still playing (allthough nobody would think of creating a nation called mummerke off course...)

i agree with mobutu. those nations who died more than a year ago... i don't think they a lot of them will come back.
by the way, if this happens it shoulb be without notifying players that some names come available again to avoid assertif players take all good names very fast.

Seriously. I just spent somewhere over 45 minutes trying to think up an original name for another nation I created. Every one of the nation names, save for the super-ridiculous ones, had been taken. And only one of them I tried was actually an existing nation! And heck, I was even trying names like "Oompa-Loompa Land" and "Fried Chicken". Honestly, there really should be a time limit after which a dead nation's name is again free for the taking. I agree that reserving for maybe a month or two is fine, but reserving it indefinitely for people who probably aren't going to come back is just absurd.

I don't know. I came back after seven months... not quite a year but I can still totally understand why people from that long ago may come back :(

sure there might be some players who start again after a year. but it'll be rare. and with what's proposed here allready there names would not necessarily been taken. if your name is not a name everybody tries, you might be able to use it again after five years... again with 5 million people though.
but it's something that could cause problems in the future. even today we start feeling the effect of the reserved names.

There aren't many names you want left they have all been taken, every country has been taken i tried "Togo" "Tunisia" and someone had taken them and just left them to die, all the names of people have gone like "Fred" or whatever you have to be really original now

Well First off, I sk that you capitolize our name, as it is a proper noun.

Second, What is Wrong with Qfdsdiozbnf, it is a Brave and Nobel Name, passesd down among the second born illigitimate children of the Franco-German tribes of Japan.

And what, precisely, is wrong with a little origionality? I say leave the system as it is. If someone can't get the name they want, well that's life.

Back in the day there was talk that possibly names dead for 6 months to a year would be reset, since there woudl likely be no confusion after such amt of time has passed. There has not been such talk in a while.

How about we make the time to reset the name dependent on the pop of the deceased nation ? If we make that 1 day per 2 millions of pop, a good name taken by a ten-day wonder of a player would return after just a month while a truly established nation (1 bil or up) would weather quite some time before falling off. Probably easy to code, too.

yetar, very good idea.
don't know anything of code, but it's a very good idea.
