A corrective look at the population figures

Fellow nation-states,

The Thracian government has, from the very beginning, been very skeptical about the population figures given to us by this game.

There is no doubt in our mind that these figures are over-inflated. They just cannot be accepted at face value.

Thracia, therefore, would like to propose a new method to "read" the population figures.

Our method is simple: Divide the population figure by 100 -- or, eliminate the last two zeros of your nation's population figure .

So, according to this method our nation's population's would not be 2.067 billion, but just 20.67 million, which is a very reasonable and realistic figure for a country our size.

In fact, if possible, this can be the way the population figure appears in every nation's description.

We look forward to your comments, counter-suggestions and improvements to our method.

The game is made to be extreme, not life like.
Exactly.

Maybe in NS2 I hope, but I like having my population China sized, even if everybody else's is larger.

Perhaps we could just have like 2 billion+ : unrealistically massive, 4 billion+ : inmpossibly massive, 6 billion(or whatever the world's pop is now)+ : world encompassing.

For RP purposes, some people do this. I've got a puppet that would have a similar reduction. Actually, it would probably be divided by 1000, as it's not supposed to be that large.

Needless to say, they won't be warring...

I was thinking that if the populations were divided by 10 you could still have large nations without the rediculous sizings. Besides, having to roleplay everything with countries at at least 300 million in my region is annoying as its WAY too large scale.

While it is true that not all nations in NationStates are composed of human beings (there are nations of squirrels, of cats, of elves and hobbits etc.), for nations composed of people, these population figures are more than extreme; they are unsustainable. The world would be a nightmarish place if there were thousands of nations with a population exceeding 1 billion. And the life conditions of the citizens in such nations would be worse than the chickens in the industrial chicken farms.

So, yes, it is indeed annoying to roleplay with nations with such massive populations. Don't you think that some realism would improve role-play?

We are rather Reality themed and a nation of Humans. The scale of things is ridiculous, We have a small Balkans nation, rather rural but our population figures dictate a landscape of horrid tower flats blotting out the sun, defaceing our landscape, instead of the beautiful red tile roofed whitewashed houses set in clusters in the midst of forests, vinyards, orchards, meadows and fields which the name Zahumlje should convey. The other possiblity is to simply ignore such figures, to decide that they are the propagand of foreigners. We've chosen that path except when haveing some State event in honour of huge numbers sounds like fun, or when we need an army. . . but then in a game with no war.... that's kind of pointless. We already had a Civil War, so that's out. . . .
