Too many endorsements needed

04-01-2004, 18:03
It seems to be the number of regional endorsements needed to put a proposal before the UN is entirely too high! It would require nearly a full time job to get to 130 some votes needed to get the necessary approval. This number needs to be cut in half...at least. Thoughts?

The UN has 2,281 Regional Delegates. 130 votes is nothing.

Right, 2,000 some delegates. However, the question becomes how many of those are active? How many of those regions with representation just sit there and do nothing, their countries are never checked, nothing ever done. I'm willing to bet there are a lot of non-active countries. Clearly, 130 some is too many as there isn't a UN resolution up for consideration now. There should be a number of resolutions awaiting formal consideration by the full UN. Let us also not forget the short amount of time those large amounts of endorsements must be picked up.

If you look at some of the resolutions passed throughout history, one may argue there are not enough votes for it to be considered a resolution. And when something is turned into a resolution, there are usually 300+ votes on it.

I believe the number is fine how it is.

I agree we haven't had a U.N resolution for a week and we aren't close to getting one,

Clearly the number isn't fine if we don't have a UN resolution ready to vote on by the entire body. This is a serious issue that goes to the very heart of this simulation. Getting 130 some regional delegate votes in the time alloted simply isn't feasable.

We would certainly concur that the number for approvals is much too high. This should be changed!

Might it be possible then to extend the time allotted? Or perhaps monitor the regional delegates for activity?

It seems that there are too many votes needed given the alloted time. However, I agree, that if there was a way to know how many nations are actually active or the regions, a better number could be formulated. It just seems like the current system doesn't work.

I agree with this. Most of the UN nations are all pro-environment and weird. Some of us who have different beliefs than the common ones need a voice. And we can't ever get a proposal through.

I quit the UN partly for this reason.

i completely agree... it's days since we last vote for a Resolution.... and there is no proposal which is near to reach the 130 endorsements!! peobably we will vote the next proposal the next year(2005)!!

While I agree that the UN agenda is very liberal, not joining the UN doesn't seem like an option as there isn't much else to this simulation.

Don't forget the real reason that nothing has been voted through in nearly a week is that a lot of the users haven't been at work where a great deal of sim activity takes. If they haven't been at work then they are not playing!!
