Why exactly can't Country names be reused...EVER?

I understand why they can't be reused immediately, because of the potential abuse...but forever?

Isn't that a little over kill?

Can't we have some sort of yearly purge implemented?

I'm confused by the options. Does "yes" mean names should be reusable?

There no real reason for them to be re-used. With a hundred thousand nations, we havent entered alo-ese yet, ie[violet2004] . There are billions of words suitable to make a nation name, and what if the prevuious owner returns??

No.

What happens if someone want to revive thier nation but it's being used by someone else because of your idea? A little unfair to them isn't it?

hmz. Well, I had a country here long ago (The Sock was it's name), but I stopped playing. Now I return and find my nation gone. that's ok I was planning to start over. however, I have no idea how to get my country back. Can anyone help me?

Something that might make matters even more difficult: the email adres I might have used (if I used one it would be gothmog@planet.nl) does no longer exist.

File a report here (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=help). If you don't remeber the nation password, and you don't have an email in the nation, then you can't get a new password.

The only way you can get a new password is if it's mailed to you through email.

~BasI think that maybe after a year....

A year from the day the nation gets canned sounds like a reasonable start... But it's a bit long--six months sounds much better. Surely the owner can be expected to maintain the nation at least that minimum...

Oh, sure, there are still words in the English/Klingon language that haven't been used yet, but there are far fewer really good names that can be easily thought up. All the cool names... gradually being banned from use as their owners abandon them...

Bring back the cool names! Maybe there could be a system where the old owner can give up ownership of the name when he/she decides he/she doesn't want to play anymore?

Like what? What nation have you tried to create that was previously used?
Ive only ever once or twice had that happened to me, and I use an awful lot of puppets.

No, I would personally violently propose anything less than a year. And some people have things come up, like the draft or an increase in workload, but may be fianlly be able to come back, only to find that they can't.

There are plenty of names still availible. Often when I find name in use it is by a tiny nation that just beat me to it. And usually as SA said, the name that I want is availible.

No, I hope not, as often players decide to leave, then come back.
