Invalid Password?, Password Recovery Isn't Working (HELP ME)

01-01-2004, 04:05
I am KaneDragon (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/page=display_nation/nation=kanedragon). I wanted to take a different approach to the issues, so I created this new nation to mess around with. It had the same password as my main nation. Now I'm told that my password for my first user is invalid. The new nation works fine. I told the site to send me an email about two hours ago, so hopefully I'll get that soon, but... Did I do something wrong? Neither of my nations is or has ever been in the UN, if that means anything.

Or I could be mistaken and I'll regret posting this later.

Did you have Caps Lock on?
01-01-2004, 18:50
Nope. Trust me, I tried entering the password very carefully many times. I got banned once for trying too many times. I've had to log in many times in the past, and I've never had any problems before. I've tried entering my password with and without Caps Lock. And I still haven't gotten the password for KaneDragon over email, so I guess it's time I try to have it sent again.

:( :( :(

Why am I not getting any password emails? :(

I just want my user back.

Do you have any sort of spam filters? And just to verify- The email address is in the nation settings, right?
01-01-2004, 23:58
Yes, my email address should be in KaneDragon's settings. And as for "spam filters"... I use Hotmail, which recently went for a new look, so who really knows for sure. I'm pretty sure I'm looking at the emails from everyone, but maybe it is already on the ban list for some reason. I do have another email address (@Yahoo.com) that I use when I think there's a chance of spam. That might work.

-----

But I just noticed something very strange. You see, originally, my new nation shared the same password as my old nation KaneDragon. I then changed it to something else in one of my desparate attempts to regain control. Just a few minutes ago, I was crusing the forums, and I hit reply. It asked me to sign in, and I did (under Grand Dragon), but I accidentally entered my original password. To my surprise, it worked. Huh?

I could have sworn... So I went back to the main page and tried to sign in to my nation under the original password. Invalid. I tried the new password. Correct. So now I'm left wondering why I apparently have separate passwords for the forums and my nation itself. :?

I don't know what caused this problem, but is there any chance a mod or someone could step in, change the password, and let me know? I'm sure I could find a way to prove my identity... United NationStates of Dessert can vouch for me.

An odd thing about the forums is that it uses your original password. When you change your password outside the forum, it doesn't change your forum password. This is normal...

Then why can't I log into KaneDragon in a similar manner?

If you post a request in Moderation, the mods might be willing to help.
If it can be proved that you are indeed the owner of this nation, they can do something about it.
Don't get your hopes too high on this, I'm not sure about moderator policy on the issue.

Well, I've already talked to SS. Hopefully SS'll have the time to come around to this soon. While I wait. Disrespectfully impatient, I might add.

I thought that I took care of this? Perhaps it was another nation with a similar problem.

I'll do this manually in just a minute.
09-01-2004, 05:13
:)

How will you take care of it? Manually send an email?

Why not? You could try checking it.

Still nothing. :(

Sooo... You'll get on this any minute now? :(

I've done it. I have sent an email to the account registered to KaneDragon with the password.

Grand Dragon, perhaps you made a typo on the e-mail address for KaneDragon.
11-01-2004, 01:58
I couldn't have. Otherwise it would have told me I had an invalid email address when I went to password recovery.

Okay, I've turned down Hotmail's junk filter as low as it will go (which is Default). And I requested another password from the site. Let's see if that does anything... :?
11-01-2004, 02:02
Heh. I wish I had thought of this, say, a week ago. I'm sorry for bothering you. It was on the 2nd setting (Enhanced) for junk mail. GO figure. Stupid Hotmail. :x

Ah yes, I forgot it asks you for your e-mail address when you go to retrieve it.
Try checking your list of blocked addresses on Hotmail, you might have accidentally blocked all @nationstates.net addresses.
If Hotmail marks something as spam, it puts it in your 'Junk E-mail' folder. Is it in there?

To test it out, try requesting a password e-mail for the nation you're currently using, to see if you recieve that one.

And it had never shown up in my Junk folder, either! Grrr again! :x
