Actually everyone is possibly right.
In case youre too lazy to read the link, basically, the server holds the last 5000 applications it receives. Depending on demand, this means youre application can be valid from as little as 24 hours to a month.
It was me who asked the question a while ago, and since getting that answer Ive found the best rule of thumb is to expect it to expire within 5 days.
If youre using it for what I use it for, ie, allowing you to have lots of anonymous UN nations on demand, just make sure you have a load of puppets that you re-apply with (but dont activate) every five days.
Its a lot of maintenance but can be worthwhile . . . .
