Visual Region Control interface

Maybe we could have a more visual interface for regional control. This iterface would include things like:

Check Boxes next to each name
{for quick banning access}
Button for retrieving XML nation information
Sorting Function, much like the kind you have on the phpBB administration panel for organizing the forum and category order. This way, you can put categories like "Head Nations", "Members", and "Probation"
Option to toggle on and off Delegate access to regional interface
Option to allow other members of the region to view the category listings or not. (IE: You could have a category that says "Possible Crashers", and you don't want that information to be displayed, so you turn off allowing regional members to view categorization.
Edit: The nations go in order by UN ranking, so it would be a seperate page for the categorizing.
Ability to use HTML or BB code in World Fact Book entires (line breaks, horizonal rule, little things like this, maybe color)

Anything else?

Oh, and for you that say "Well now griefers can ban everyone faster", so what? They'll still get deleted, plus maybe you could throw in a "Allow Delegate to Access Visual Interface" button.

There used to be a pull-down menu for ejections, but they did away with that.
The xml thing sounds good though.

Actually, the pull-down menu exists, but only in smaller regions (I believe it is <100). Controllers of larger regions must type in names.

There are some neat ideas here. Keep pounding them out, and I'll be by in maybe a week or so to see the results.

Ok, I'll see what else I can come up with.

If anyone else has some ideas, feel free to add them and discuss them.

I don't necessarily need new ideas. This just give all of these ideas time to get polished.

Check boxes next to each name = bad.

Look at Europe. A page with 700 nations on it? That would be a hinderance, not a help.

Ok. I'm also working on a diagram of the idea on Photoshop 7.

It wouldn't be all on one page. 10 nations to a page would be fine. So you have to go page by page, it's still faster then banning one by one..

In what way quicker than a drop-down box?

Drop box you have to go one by one, this is select up to 10 and push a button.

Perhaps quicker if you have <50 nations in your region, but otherwise it becomes unmanagable.
at 10 nations per page, Europe would have 80 pages. The West Pacific would have over 600.

As a long-term founder of a mid-sized (46 member) region, I'm not so sure I like these ideas. I've always found the current regional control interface easy to use. With ejections, IMHO it would be faster the current way than having to go through pages of lists to find the nation in question.

Although I would like to see line breaks in the Factbook Entries.

Also, where's the password-protection option gone?

No no no, you have the option to access both types, the regular and the VRCI. The passwording is still there.

As I said... europe - 80 pages. Pacifics - 500+ pages.

As for BBCode in world factbook entries, good idea on the whole but the [size] and [img] functions would need to be disabled otherwise it would seriously screw up the regions listings.
[url] tags would be useful though.

Okay. No objection if the regular remains.

Agreed.Reduces spamming, could also increase censorship.

Actually, founders can just kick people off, so what the hell?

OT: Can founders spam their own regions?

OT: Can founders spam their own regions?

It would enable Founders to delete posts made by advertisers/spammers who are only in the region for 20 seconds.

OT: Yes, as long as it's not abusive spam.

for the Checkboxes, categories, etc. anything that lists a lot of nations, this could be donein small text, maybe as it is done when you view the votes for a proposal, you could then click on that nation, and check box them from their (although this wouldn't be as fast) and this could be iin Alphabetical order to make it easier to navigate through

to make it faster for Ejecting you could make it so that all you have to do is click on one of these names and they would be instantly ejected.

Here's a few things that could help on the long checkbox thing.

One option is to make a select box where you can select multiple nations at a time.

The second options is to add onto the checkbox idea, and put it in a iFrame. Each page would have the nations that only started with a certain letter - like all the nations that start with the letter P for example - and you could just checkbox from there. That would also cut down time on sorting through pages. You could also sort by pages after sorting by letter - as complicated as this seems it would be easy. But not easy to create, which is the only problem.

I don't forsee this happening in the near future. It is an interesting idea though for the much more distant future.
