I know this is a little complicated...

I was thinking you could have a system where you send us an e-mail or telegram* if our nation was at risk of being deleted for inactivity, that would be cool.

*Telegram would be sent to any nation with the same e-mail or IP address.

That would be annoying more than anything.
It's not too hard to remember to log in once a month.

Also note this would result in AOL users recieving e-mails about nation they've never heard of ceasing to exist.

To make thoings simple, My, drop the IP part of their idea. It would be very nice to have e-mails sent to you before deletion. That said, I have always looked on my deleted nations as my problem, in that I can't be responsible to feed the darn things from time to time I deserve to have them die.

Ok, I wasn't such a big fan of this one, but I guess this means that I add it to my to do list now.

Maybe have the email sent when half the nations allowable time is used up (can't rememebr the exact time) with the option of immediate deleting or delay (in the case of forgotten password, messed up comp, etc. Of course, I'm neither admin nor mod, so that's easy for me to say. Er, type.

...But what in the case of nations run by people unwilling to give out their Email address? Possibly adding that function of the address would help...

Cower, unworthy Salusa, and, at the bidding of the omnipresent non-mods, drop anything you are doing and make the game perfect!

Well, do with it as wish, but whatever you do, thanks for considering it.

Can we make them blockable?
Qaaolchoura
25-12-2003, 19:16
What about having one two weeks ahead, and one one week ahead, and they can be blocked separately?

I generally try to log into my nations every three weeks, and by recieving them for most of my nations, I would end up ignoring them all, and hence rendering this feature pointless for me.

If this is implemented (personally, I don't like it) it would have to be opt-in, as otherwise could get very annoying

I definitely agree. If I want to check on my puppets, I'll just check my Dossier.

On the one hand, it would mean that people who'd forgotten would be reminded about NationStates and return to play the game

Hmm :?

hmmm you could send a email like a TM just have a button "send Email" and it could go to the email address in the settings screen that way its not seen by the other players so cant be taken and missused any abuse could be mailed to a address (with the internet headers) set up for it, would this be workable?

Must agree with phoebus. But if so, make more of a deal of it so new ppl notice it when they make nations.

Couldn't that lead to spam companies flooding out spam via NationStates?

not if theres Flood control and software to stop bots from running like if it trys to send 20 Emails in a minute the email func could be disabled , and they could go out from the NS admin address

Re Hans564's idea:

I'd only support it if it was optional (opt-in, preferably). Most message boards have that capability, but it is optional.

it would be opt in there could be a tick box next to the Email box in the settings "Allow me to be Emailed" or something like that, if ticked the code is enabled for your Nation it would also have to state the nation being Emailed for the people with lots of puppets

No objection to that.

I think a 'E-mail notification on telegrams' function would be better. Like on some phpbb2 forums, where you have the option to recieve an e-mail when you recieve a new telegram.

It used to be possible (before my time) for NS to e-mail you the issues. This was removed due to the number of users. Thus, though I will pass many of these ideas on to [violet] (after they've been kicked around for a while longer), I don't think that many (if any) of these will be implemented (or even considered) before we get the server on a firmer base.

The server seems to be hurting a lot of projects. :(

agree with penstar/PHoebos

Some people would find it useful , others annoying so a toggle idea is good
