Regional UN?

16-12-2003, 21:02
I'm new here, so this might be a totally ignorant question, but I was wondering: Is it possible for a sort of 'regional' UN?

That is, within a region, the members of the region vote on various proposals that will effect all the other people in their region?

Anyone think this is a good idea? If not, why not ?

I actually like that idea. That way it gives all the nations in the region a voice. I come from a small region of only 8 countries, but i know that in the much larger regions some of the nations probably have no say in anything. That plan would work to help every nation have an equal voice in their region, when it comes to laws that affect the region directly or through the Grander United Nations.

If you're interested in regional politics, you might want to check out The Chosen Four. We have two threads (authored by I-rey) in the NS forum, and an offsite thread located here:

We're big on regional politics, policies, etc.

And, contrary to what Casalanario might say, the South Pacific also has a Regional Government with which all members who wish to participate may and can participate through an off-NS forum system.

This would be a good idea for NS2 post this suggestion there.

I'm not sure you could force it on a region, not without changing the game mechanics. What you could do (if all nations in your region were agreeable) would be to make the regional UN delegate more like a member of parliament ie. they ask everyone in the region what they want to vote on a particular resolution, then agree or disagree depending on majority vote. I can't see that working with an 'open' region though.

Well my region is a small private region and i happen to be the delegate. I could see your idea working in my region. I will post the idea in my region and see what the other nations think.

While I do agree that this would be a good idea, the United Nations is not the place to discuss changes to game mechanics.
