Game Suggestion: Regional Immigration Policy

14-12-2003, 06:26
I posted this on another thread. The question was: Is it possible to find a happy medium between keeping the region closed, and keeping it open but succeptible to invasion.

I suggested this:

Maybe the Regional Leader could have a console that would have the following options:

- Accept no more than X number of new nations from any other Region:
- Exception 1: From Region 123, Y number of new nations are accepted:
- Exception 2: From Region 456, Z number of new nations are accepted:
- Create new Exception
- Check here to designate region of origin as ANY region that a given Nation has resided in.

* The first option on the console would be the basic suggestion I am putting forward.

* The exception options would be so that certain regions would be given a larger or a smaller quota.

* The last option I suggested for the console would be to prevent Nations who cannot go from Region 1 to Region 2, from going 1-->3-->2; this could be toggled on or off

* The numbers could be manipulated as the need was seen fit; for example if a quota of 5 was set and a nation wanted to get in, it would be refused but notified that a telegram was automatically sent to the region leader asking to increase the quota by 1. (and/or a telegram to other nations from the restricted region, who may want to swap with the restricted region.

Just my thoughts. I have no idea how we can get these ideas implemented. I can be reached at umpire@sympatico.ca for more discussion.

Would be good for stopping invaders but a password would work quite well but i don't mind the idea but it would hard to do for [violet]

Well, this is basically what the regional control is supposed to do, except in a little different way. Keep in mind that any nation can view the regional control panel (if they know the URL, which is an "if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all" type thing), so they could simply move to a region with a higher quota if the quota for their current region of residence is filled. Basically, passwords accomplish the same thing with a bit more personal control by the region members. I wouldn't expect to see this implemented since it involves a major overhaul of the game interface and according to Salusa interface changes are hard to implement.

Interesting Idea, reminds me of the US immigration policy of the mid to late 1800's

It would let you block people from some regions, but they could just re-route themselves via another.

I think that overall its a neat idea but probably not that useful.

Can you give an example of what situation you thought it would be useful for Anberica?

Well, interface changes are hard for me to implement. It really depends on a case by case basis.

This change would be obscene at so many different levels, that I relly don't see anything like this happening in NS. I wouldn't really expect this too much in NS2 either because the whole concept of regions/alliances will be different.

Many people have suggested that passwords do the job fine.

My idea was in response to another thread where the poster made the case that passwords hurt regional growth (most new nations, he argues, would rather find another region instead of waiting for password indefinitely).

The premise was, "there has to be a third way other than either full password or no password."

Until the quota (set strategically) was reached, the region would be open, but closed once the quota was reached (under my idea).

Just suggesting,
